water in POTC boats still an issue! (small rant)

Rode WDW PotC on Thursday and had lots of water in the boat when we loaded. I slouched in my seat so I could put my knees up against the back of the seat in front of me, keeping my feet off the floor. They would've been wet otherwise. I was in row 5 and those in the front all shrieked after the drop, exclaiming how wet they were.

We went on POTC the afternoon of our MNSSHP in October. I didn't think the boats were that big of an issue until I experienced it for myself that evening. When our boat pulled up, there was already at least an inch of standing water sloshing around in the boat. I can deal with that. Our first problem was that once our boat took off our boat leaned tremendously to the left. Someone in our boat from the back took the lead and reminded people to lean to the right throughout the ride...otherwise, water lapped over the edge and in to the boat as we continued through the ride. The water level remained at the edge of the boat for the entire ride. Once we got to the drop, the leaning was the least of our problems. Not a single person got off the boat dry. The amount of water in the boat after the drop covered my adult feet and went above my ankles.

I know it seems like it would be unlikely this would be true. I know I would have doubted it if I read this, but I couldn't believe this happened. We have loved POTC throughout the years. However, this experience has definitely caused us to put this ride on the back burner for our future trips.

JUST BACK! I paid close attention to this ride because of this thread. I went on Pirates several times (especially at night when there was no wait). The first time I went in the front seat of the boat. I came off the ride VERY wet. My hair, pants, etc. took hours to dry off. There was a small amount of standing water.
ALL of my other 6 or 7 experiences took place in rows 4,5, & 6. I didn't get even a drop wet on any of these rides, and I didn't see any water in the boat in these rows. Here is a picture of the boat (rows 5 & 6).

Idk....is this issue since last July? Because that is when I was last there and like to ride in the front row when I can. I hadn't ever become damp like that. A bit of water sloshing about on the floor that was already there. I just move my feet. Never had the need for a rain poncho. Lol
Also ye be landlubbers cause ya can't be on the high seas or the waters of the old bayou without getting your breeches a bit damp.

if i'm not mistaken it was closed in july due to the refurb.
it opened in late september and this problem started then.
we aren't talking "a bit damp" we are talking several inches of standing water in some boats that made people's feet soaked and people sitting int he front row of some boats drenched from head to toe.

it would appear that its not occuring quite as much or as badly as of recently.

We rode Tuesday 2/2 and Thursday 2/4 and the boats were bone dry both times.

Rode today was apprehensive but was prepared with extra clothing and crocs. Was pleasantly surprised that the boat was bone dry. Even to the point that the trash left in the boats such as napkins by rude guests were dry.
They loaded only two people in each row. Except for family's with kids. Our boat on each side was above water by almost a foot. No leaning. I heard no splash scream

I looked at 5 boats. All dry. Floor and ramps up all dry

Think I lucked out today

Well....I definitely was there in July. The week of the 06th...and I did set sail with them pirates. Guess I've been lucky so as to not experience heavy rain storms while setting sail on the high and not so high seas. :)

Maybe they are not packing people on the boats so much anymore. That would solve the problem of the boats getting stuck and people having to rock the boat free. It may have also helped with the splashing issue too. Glad to hear it is better.

Just wanted to thank those who have posted pictures. If more posted pictures of the soaked rides, the naysayers may change their minds.

I go on splash during warm weather, but even then I don't hope to get wet. If the water issue continues on POTC , it will have to become a warm weather ride too.

I was there from the 30th-2nd (January - February), and rode it twice I believe. No water at all in the boats, and I only ever felt maybe a drop or two on me, which is how it's always been. I got more consistently wet on Splash this time though. In the past I was sometimes able to escape water on Splash, but not this time. But for POTC, no water this time.

Just back from WDW and was almost going to pass on Pirates because of this thread but it was a rainy day when we were there anyway, so we went. DH and I got the last row and didn't get wet at all. The floor was not wet when we loaded. I do think the front row got sprayed, but I didn't notice anyone coming off soaked. Didn't notice any splash from a cannon ball.

As we were boarding, I mentioned to the cm that I heard people were getting wet on this ride and he said quite frankly, "Well, this is a water ride".

Trust me, being a 'water ride' (per the cm) doesn't make getting a face full of dirty water when sitting in the front row (this happened to us) acceptable. Maybe he was thinking of Spash Mountain? A ride on water does not a water ride make! Nuance.

It's a water ride that I think people just aren't used to getting wet on. Some people claimed to be getting as wet as Splash and the likes, but I only ever got a drop or two on me, usually from bumping into the side of the rails or something.

I don't know, it kind of does. Any ride that deals with water, such as a boat riding down water, one should reasonably expect there's a chance of getting wet. Not like Splash or Kali, but still, water is involved.

I just got back. I rode Pirates 3 or 4 times over the course of my trip. The first time I rode, it was bone dry and I didn't get a drop on me. I was in the last row. The second time I rode, which was immediately following the first time, I got pretty wet in the front seat although there was no standing water. I would compare that ride to Splash Mountain wetness.

The other times I rode I wasn't in the front. The boats were all dry and I didn't get at all wet.

I would avoid the front seat.

here we go again.
have you read through the thread? this has been discussed.
the problem is people were getting as wet as splash and kali.
btw you really EXPECT to get wet on rides like IASW, living with the land, gran fiesta tour...?

We were there around Christmas and the front row got drenched. We were in the middle and still got some splash (but it was 90 degrees in December so who cares). It is definitely more water than before.
