Water in checked bags?

We are traveling to Universal next month and have 3 free checked bags. I know I don't need all 3 bags, but I like to pack 3 just in case. My question is has anyone ever packed bottled water in checked bags? I would put them in 2 gallon zip bags in case of leakage. Just wondering if they would get flagged? I have plenty of room and will be under weight and thought we could save some $ on water. I wouldn't do a lot, just maybe 5-6 bottles per bag? Thoughts?

I pack water, juice, and nesquick in my checked luggage every time.
I also pack things like granola bars, peanut butter crackers, and fruit pouches.
I'm not a morning person and don't like to eat much that early in the morning so I use those foods and drinks as my breakfast.
I put them in ziploc baggies in case of leaks although I've never had a leak.

People do.
Liquids in checked luggage don't generally cause concern.
A pint of water weighs one pound. You want to consider luggage weight.
Please, in consideration of other passengers, provide more leakage protection than a single layer of bagging

You can bring solidly frozen water bottles in your carry-ons. Just pour about an ounce out of the bottle, before freezing. Before passing through Security, open each bottle to drink or pour off the small amount that may have melted. To not cause any delays, it's a good idea to remove the frozen bottles from your bags before screening, so that TSA can see them and not flag your bags for inspection.

Once past Security, you can top off your bottles, prior to boarding, if you want.

Or, you can just bring empty water bottles and fill them at the airport, before boarding (if you don't mind airport water).

You cannot bring more than 3 ounces in each bottle thru TSA. Not sure how you were able to do so nor why freezing them would make any difference.

Actually its 3.4oz and being frozen makes it a solid which does make a difference I've seen people do it. Would I? Nah but it is ok to do.

I am a frequent flyer and always bring frozen water bottles in my carry-on, using the guidelines I originally posted. A TSO once recommended that I pull the solidly frozen bottles from my bag, prior to the bag being screened. I never have any problems when the screeners see the bottles. As peviously posted, there just can't be any melted liquid in the bottles.

I started doing this, as I did not want to purchase a single botttle of water at the airport, post Security, for the same cost of a case of water in any normal store. Unfortunately, water from airport drinking fountains is not always the most desirable, so I don't care for that option, either.

Many airlines provide free bottled water. Some do not advertise it but usually have bottled water if asked. I've gotten free bottles on United, Southwest and American, usually Dasani.

One time I asked on a Southwest flight. They did not have bottled water. They had water in a can. I did not like it. This was a few years ago.

More proof the "liquid ban" is useless window dressing designed to make us "think" the Thousands Standing Around are doing something useful!

Or you could just ask an airline/airport employee to take your beverage, they don't have to abide by the 3 oz rule because after all NONE of them would EVER do anything wrong... (Let's all pretend that we don't know that one of the original "liquid bomb" plotters was an airport employee!) Theatre!

We fly SW and the last few times down we used 1 checked bag to schlep four three liter boxes of Pinot Grigio. Long ago we packed cases of beer and water, separately, of course.

They'd be fine in checked bags - BUT I'd be concerned about the extra weight (I think most airlines have a 50lb weight limit on checked bags before they start tacking on extra fees). For something like bottled water I'd just get a delivery from a local grocery store sent to the room, or grab an Uber/Lyft to the nearest WalMart or Target store and pick it up myself.

True, I weigh all our baggage before heading to the airport. More than once we found ourselves switching stuff from one bag to another to get under the limit and once I ripped a malfunctioning retractable handle out and tossed it to make weight. No more!
