To my camping buddies, we have a trail lite trek. We bought a filter at Walmart last year after our first time hooking up at a campground (it tasted awful :( ). We have been on 3-5 trips (only 2 nights each) since then and every time the water smells very chemically to the point that it smells up the room for a few minutes. Does anyone have some suggestions of the problem or a good filter or hose to use for the water supply? We have been at 3 different locations so I know it was not just the one park. It is also a white potable drinking water hose (it came with the camper accessory kit when we bought the camper). Thanks for all your help

I'm assuming your using the same filter (camco in-line) that we use.

Are you attaching it before the hose or before it goes into the camper? We are just completing our 8th year of camping and have used that style since the beginning.

I'm not an expect, but here are my suggestions. Sanitize your whole system a couple of times flushing with your filter. Hook your filter up to the rv, not at the faucet before connecting the hose. Finally, you'll have to get use to "other water".

Your last option is to bring your own "home" water and a couple of cases of bottle water for drinking.

Good Luck pirate:

Since you've had the smell problem at more than one location, I suspect you need to sanitize and thoroughly flush your camper water system. Also, try hooking up at home and see if you still have the smell problem on your home water; that would confirm that the problem is in the camper system.
ETA: is the smell in both cold and hot water? If only in hot water, check that water heater tank is clean and that if there is an anode, it is in good condition.

Not to imply anything but are you turning on the water pump even when hooked up to the park water ? The pump is used only when camping away from services. I second to flushing the whole system and also adding the water system treatment. It claims to cure bad water taste. In all fairness I have never found camping water that tastes real good. I carry several gallons of home water to use in my coffee.
