Water filter bottle questions

Two questions for those of you who have used the filter bottles to drink the FL water.

1) Have any of you tried the innova bottles and filters? With the Britta bottles unavailable, I thought about trying these. They are reasonably priced and the website says the filters will fit a standard water bottle.

2) Has anybody who found the FL water upset their stomach tried using the filters? How did it work out? My son appears to be sensitive to the water, and I was hoping to avoid buying all our water. We are going in August, so I am planning on needing a lot!

Thanks for any help you can give!

I haven't tried the Innova filters - I hope you get a response on that part. I am sorry to hear the Brita bottles are no longer available, I always meant to try those! We brought along a more heavy-duty Eddie Bauer filter bottle and the water still made me queasy. I get sick to my stomach everytime I visit FL (my mother and brother both live down there). We purchased water (and other food items) from wegoshop.com and it was well worth it to us. We got the 24 pack of cheaper water and - even with a $15 delivery fee - felt it came out less expensive than buying all our water on-site. Just an idea for you to consider, especially if you needed other food items.

I used the replacement filter on my regular water bottles (2 I brought from home with insulated sleeves on them) and they worked GREAT! I bought 2 last year for our August trip. I was skeptical but they worked wonderfully.

You just have to be sure the top will fit the water bottles. They do not fit every size bottle. That is why I brought my own empty water bottles that I knew fit the filter top cover. I got mine at Stop & Shop in the cooler/summer section. It doesn't fit on the smaller/skinner bottles but the bigger water bottles.

Here's what we're talking about.

They also have their own bottles that the filter fits in and they have bottles/filters very similar to Brita as well.

I have used the Britta bottles and found that they virtually eliminated the off taste and chlorine smell of Florida water, and had no idea that they were no longer availible. The water did not upset our stomachs, however I just found it undrinkable and nasty. I have not heard anything about the Inova (?sp) filters, however if the are made of the same material as the Britta type (charcoal filters), I would think they would be somewhat the same.

Thanks for the info, BeattyFamily. Let me get this straight - did you purchase empty bottles and the Innova filters at Stop&Shop, and they filters fit in the generic bottles? I had the Britta, but this post indicates that they are no longer availible, and I can throw a stone and hit 3 Stop&Shops here where I live (okay, at least 2 with the stone). I'll have to check out the cooler section and see what I can find there.

I bought the Innova Filters online at the above website. Then I tried them on various bottles I had; then I brought it with me to Stop and Shop and bought empty water bottles in their summer aisle that it fit. A plus to getting mine at S&S is that the empty bottle came with an insulated, velcro (I attached it to my fannypack) cover.

You can just buy the filter AND the empty bottle at the website above if you want to instead of searching for a bottle it will fit.

Hope this helps!

The Brita bottles have been discontinued, though some people have reported still finding them on store shelves. They are also avbailable on Ebay, I think, but I am not willing to spend that much. I was hoping the Innova ones would work. Did you use the A or B filters? It looks like the difference is the size of the bottle, but also that the B filters out lead as well as clorine, etc. DH, DD, and I all seem fine with the water, but DS10 has gotten sick a couple of times. The last time was probably a virus, since he had a fever and vomiting, and then my DH got sick, but the trip before he just had really bad diarrhea, but felt fine otherwise. The last trip we basically stuck to bottled water, though we did have a few fountain drinks or drinks with ice, and he was fine. It may be pure coincidence, but if I can minimize the risk, I will. Thanks for the info!

A filter fits regular water bottles, the larger water bottles you can buy like Poland Springs etc...or an empty one like the one I bought at S&S. The B filter is a replacement filter for the Brita-type water bottles they sell on their website.
