Watching videos while driving?

So not only do we have to watch out for careless drivers yacking on phones and texting while driving, we have to worry about them getting engrossed in movies. I have seen people with portable DVD players on their dash. These NAV screens are even worse because you have to look down to watch.

I think I really need some kind of anxiety medicine because driving to work every day gets more and more frightening because of careless, self-centered drivers.

It's illegal in California to have a screen visible to the driver. Built-in DVD players are installed behind the driver's head and portable players may not be used in the front seat where the driver could see it.

We're going to be driving home from Lake Tahoe tomorrow. My 14 year old son wants to ride home with my sister so he can ride "shotgun." He asked if he can bring the DVD player in her car. I said no, you'd have to sit in the backseat to play it or ride with us where your brother will be using it in the backseat. He decided he'd rather ride in the front seat with his auntie and forgo the movie.

My radio is also a DVD screen in my car. The only way you can watch a movie while moving is to have the emergency brake pushed in at least one notch... and even then, a message comes on screen telling you that driving with a movie playing is illegal in most states.

There is a little computerized box in cars that will tell the insurance company exactly what the car was doing in case of an accident.

I believe there was an incident involving an accident where someone was run over and it was later determined the driver had rigged up his stereo/dvd system to allow him to watch movies.
