Watching those clips of Avatar tonight

Did anyone experience motion sickness when watching this movie? I have a little interest, but not if it is going to give me a headache and I have to close my eyes through 2/3 of it.

Movies with handheld cameras make me sick, with lots of quick jerking movements. I am thinking Avatar on the big screen is not for me.
I've heard complaints from people who have seen the 3-d but none from those who saw the regular version. I think that I'll just go to a normal theater.

but this process will change the way you see movies forever.

Unfortunately, I feel this is true. Too many movies, it seems, fall prey to the "We have cool SFX/CGI/explosions/cheesecake, we don't need to have a decent plot, gripping dialogue, or believable characters."

Wow DH wanted to take everyone to the movies today (DS 16, DS 13, DD 11 & Me) but the problem was we couldn't decide on a movie. DH and Ds16 wants to see Book of Eli. But I don't think the other two will want to see that, so then we talked about going to see Avitar. The moives cost a fortune for us to go, even the afternoon showings. So now after these reviews I'm really not sure if I should spend the 60 some dollars for us to go see Avitar. :confused3
Not to pick on you or anything, but I don't understand this comment. Most of the replies here are about how it didn't appeal to the poster at first, but then they loved it when they saw it.

As for the political undertones, it had no more than Pocohantas, Dances with Wolves, and Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron. :confused3

I think I am the only person on the planet who never even saw a preview for this movie. :rotfl: I must have been living under a rock, because I had no idea what it was about or that there were blue people in it until I saw it this weekend. I was picturing a Nickelodeon cartoon. :lmao:

It was an amazing movie and we didn't even see it in 3D. Yes, the plot was predictable, but that doesn't bother me. It's rare that a movie isn't predictable, but I still enjoy most of them for other artistic elements.

i agree, however you are describing Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen. this is not that kind of movie, any explosions and violence are there to move the story not be the story.

("Unobtaium"? Really? What the heck?!?)
I'm sure I've heard the word "unobtanium" used in other sci fi works. I know a scientist who uses it, too, to describe a substance that he wishes he could obtain, but likely doesn't exist. I think it's an inside joke.

for those of you who are scoffers, not one person i know who said they did not want to go and were DRAGGED to it were sorry they went. if you look through the thread you will see its that way here too. sometimes people miss good things because they "take a stand" and refuse to back off it. dont miss this the way it is supposed to be seen just because of that. it will not have the same affect on a TV and you will feel justified but you will be wrong. is it the greatest thing since sliced bread??? no. but this process will change the way you see movies forever.

I get that, but there are times I simply don't find a movie interesting. The theme, the message, the way it looks, just don't interest me. I don't think others are stupid for loving it, but it doesn't do anything for me.

Watching the clips last night made me want to go and watch it again!! It was such a great movie!!!

I have no desire at all to see the movie. And the clips from the Globes last night made me want to see it even less.

No, it describes Avatar as well. (Plus the second Star Wars trilogy, and more than a few others.) As I said, while Avatar is visually stunning, the story is no better than average, and the dialogue was bad. I was hoping for a lot more - in many ways, it reminded me of Titanic - lots of hype, and a major disappointment when I actually saw it.

I am with you! It looks horrible. Did you also hate the Lord of the Rings series and all the Star Wars? To me that was torture.

I have never seen any of the LOTR series (again, less than no interest) and I think the only SW films I've seen are the original, Return of the Jedi, and the Empire Strikes Back. The most recent time I saw any of those was probably more than 20 years ago. I just don't get the allure of anything even remotely sci-fi-ish. If it can't happen in real life, I just don't care about it.

Seeing we're all on a Disney message board, it amuses me that people don't want to see the movie over a potential "political message" in the film. I assume they don't see Disney films either?

interesting comment, you could have added the people who dont like anything even romotely sci-fi....................most of WDW is, if not hardcore science fiction, by storyline, at least highly implausible.

I didn't want to see it either... but just did. WOOOOOW!!!!!! Awesome!!!:thumbsup2

I am not at all jazzed to see Avatar (storyline seems predictabe and not a huge fan of sci-fi and overdone CGI). DD and her friend, though, really want to see it, so we are going to go next week. I'll have to report back once we have experienced it. Maybe I'll turn out to love it, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope...

I too went with my husband and son not thinking I'd really like it, but I thought it was awesome! :thumbsup2

Add me to the growing list of people who were skeptical at first, but ended up loving this movie. The previews made it look like another cheesy special on the Sci-Fi channel. Boy was I proven wrong. This was truely an escape. We saw it in 3D which is an absolute MUST. But even without the effects, it still made for a very entertaining film. Definitely one I could see again on the big screen.

I had no desire to see this movie but went because of all the hype. After I saw it I posted this as my facebook status. I think it says it all.

Stink. Stank. Stunk.

I went with my dad and if I would have been alone I would have walked out. I had no desire to see how it ended at all. It was waaaay too long. Every time I thought it was over they decided to add another plot to drag it out. I don't think the 3D added much to it. I knew I was in trouble when I was trying to fall asleep in the middle of it. I didn't succeed :sad1:

It will probably win the Oscar for best movie but I don't think it should IMO

Mature review of the week!!
