Watching Thirtysomething on Netflix, does it get better?

I like to mix a TV series on Netflix streaming along with my movies. I am now watching Thirtysomething and although I like the clothes and 80's everything it is beginning to strike me as mopey. Everyone in the show says Hope & Michael are a perfect couple but they are miserable, if that was my life I'd run screaming. Are there any previous viewers out there who can tell me if it stays this way or not? Should I jump ship and try to find something else? If so, any recommendations?

IMO, no, it gets worse... but I gave up after 3 -4 episodes. I too, had it from netflix.

BTW, Freaks and Geeks was AWESOME. And so many of them went on to become BIG stars.

LOL, I used to watch thirtysomething back in the day when it was on prime time!
I too re-watched it on netflix recently, and can't believe exactly how whiney hope and micheal really were:rotfl:
I always like Melissa and Gary the best.

I think the series gets a little better imo.........but it still is what it is.

I hated that show, really hated that show, still hate that show. Could not pay me to watch that show.:goodvibes

My older sister loved it:confused:

Wanted to add have you watched Dexter on Netflix, that show is great!

No, they just get whiny-er and more wah, my life is not idealistic like we planned in college...blah blah blah.

I'm currently watching Lost, which I didn't see at all when it aired. I am totally hooked, so much so that I'll probably be sad when I'm done!

I'm also watching Scrubs, that show cracks me up.

My husband and I were in our mid-twenties when that show was on and we swore a blood oath to knock each other upside the head if we actually started acting like that in our 30's. But still, it was kind of like a train wreck for us ... just horrifying but we couldn't turn away.

As for does it get any better....

From what I remember, cancer, death, affairs, marriages breaking up, mid-life crises out the wazoo ..... You name an angst and I think they went through it.

Yes, you will be very sad. Nothing else on TV even compares.

It's good to know I'm not alone then, I am in episode 8 and Hope is just coming apart at the seams making it sound like being a SAHM is the biggest conflict on the face of the earth. She is living my life and all I can think about is "Where did they get this stuff, I never felt like that, that sort of thing doesn't happen":headache: What a bunch of wimps.

DH and I exhausted Dexter and LOST, although the last season of LOST lost my interest(good one right, naah, I know it's awful, just kidding:laughing:). Lost got too spidery and I stopped caring about the characters, same thing with Smallville. I never saw Freaks and Geeks so that might be worth a shot. The new True Blood comes out soon but that will have to wait for the fall when everyone goes back to school. I can't even chance a kid seeing or hearing that, I am looking forward to it though.

This summer I have a 12 and a 13 year old which means too old for play-dates when I would see other Mom's and too young to be ignored so I will have lots of time on my hands in the house with a group of teens but disengaged... chaperoning is so much fun. Lots and lots of Movies & Netflix will save me;)

I started Better Off Ted last night. It seems pretty clever. And my favortie is Arrested Development, 30 Rock and Parks and Reck. All streaming.

I don't think I watched one episode when it originally aired.

I did recently catch Hot in Cleveland and it was hilarious. I know it isn't an older series, but it is really funny. Season 1 is what is on Netflix and it is only like 9 episodes, but worth the time to watch.

I like Hot in Cleveland too. I've seen it on tv and noticed the other day it was available in streaming. I used to be be obsessed with Scrubs. I have every season but the last on DVD/

omG I was thirty something when that show came out and I SWEAR I HATED IT! I wanted to slap each one of them and tell them what REAL problems were!!

No, bail NOW. The 30s are bad enough without watching it on television! :lmao:

I was thirtysomething when the show was on, and I loved it. So did DH. We found lots to identify with, enjoyed the obscure and interesting music and wonderful acting, and were very thankful to NOT have a boss like Miles Drentell (sp).

It's easily one of my favorite shows ever.

I was a teenager when it was on the air and I watched it and loved it. I just recently watched the first few episodes from season one, and honestly, I wonder why I ever liked it as much as I did. I guess I'm viewing it differently 20+years later, now that I am a (late) thirtysomething, married with kids. They just seem like they whine so much! Hope is just about a basket case about just about every issue of new motherhood. I don't get it.

I loved that show, but it's my bet it hasn't aged well.

I loved it also. But DH hated it. We got married in August and I think ThirtySomething started that Sept. I bought it on DVD at Target for 4.75 awhile back (season one) and I'm going to watch it to see what I think of it 25 years later!

I can't even begin to tell you how much I hated that show. I wasn't 30 at the time, and I thought to myself that if I ever acted like that at 30, then please shoot me. Actually my parents would have shot me and then themselves for raising such whiny little brats. This was the most depressing show I had ever seen, they should have done us all a favor and blown their brains out and put us and themselves out of their misery.

Note: I mean the characters not the real life people playing them.
