Watching Teams You Don't Like???

Does anybody else watch a sporting event because you dislike the team playing? On Saturday, I visited my dad and he was all excited to watch a certain football game (names withheld to protect me from flames). He dislikes this team and has for years, but he watches all their games so that he can root against them. Doesn't make much sense to me. Anybody else do this or is my dad just very unique?

Yeah. I'll watch a Yankees game just to root for whoever they're playing against.

Living in Florida means I don't get to see the Pats play too often. In desperation I'll watch Tampa Bay. I don't dislike the Bucs but they sure aren't the Patriots.

I hate the dallas cowgirls & the a&m aggies. I will watch them & root for the other guy. My weekend ended on a good note when dallas lost!

I can't really think of a team I dislike all that much. (I am thinking football) I will watch other teams play to see how everyone is doing (who to watch for in the playoffs). But I usually just end up rooting for the underdog, just for fun.

There are two college teams my DH loves to watch and hate. Not saying the names, and only one of them is big ten.

We call my husband the "anti-fan" for exactly this reason. There are two local teams that he loathes, but watches whenever they're on TV so he can boo them.

When I first dated him, I thought it was very weird, but after being with him for 18 years, it seems almost normal now.

I think that's pretty common. Sports are filled with "great rivalries." I think the networks set them up, so that when the hometown team isn't playing they still get the ratings!

My dh has been watching EVERY game he has a fantasy football player in + the ones the opposing team in playing in. He's in 2 leagues so he's basically watching EVERY game.
This will end soon, b/c otherwise DD's and I will be digging his grave out front

Normally, he's not so horrid...he likes the Raiders, Redwings, Bluejays, Cardinals Kentucky (college basketball)and anyone playing the yankees/mets/redsocks

This happens at my house every Saturday in the fall. DH HATES a certain team...his alma mater located maybe 15 miles from our house. He loves to hate them though and especially loves to have friends who are fans of the team over to watch when they are losing.

I'm glad to know that my dad is not alone. I guess I don't enjoy watching a team I love enough to watch one I hate. I'll just go shopping instead!

Usually only around playoff time if we need a team to lose so we make it into the playoffs.

I can't take watching the entire game. I'll check the score near the end, and if they are losing I will watch and CHEER! !! I've even got my boys doing it....

Not quite the same thing as I don't watch because I WANT to, but my boyfriend will watch Red Sox games at my house sometimes since he loves the Sox...I always secretly root against them.
