Watching for a <50 resale

I know these are grabbed up quickly. I've signed up for emails for a bunch of the resale brokers, followed via social media and am checking their listings daily. Any tips for snagging a small contract? Thx

Depending on the resort, it is often more effective to get 25-40 points direct. Once you factor in time, small contract premium and closing, it is rare to save much.

Really it sounds like you are doing most everything you can. I did see the timeshare store now has a texting system for new listings so you could sign up for that too. I think DVC resale market also had an app in the past that could send notifications as well so you could also try those.
Depending on how many points you want and what home resort the cost difference between direct and resale may not be that much and a lot easier to get. That’s assuming you already own DVC since non owners can’t purchase a contract that small. If you don’t already own DVC buying a single contract that small may be disappointing as you don’t have much wiggle room in booking rooms with such a small contract. Studios get harder to book every year and there is a strong likelihood that the 2021 charts may involve higher point charts for studios like the previously reversed 2020 did.

Yes we have had 200 BRV/direct since 2001 but it is jointly owned by a few family members and I want to get some points on the side for my husband and I to go an extra couple of days a year/every other. I just got a couple of emails noting the texting feature and app that you mentioned. I'll keep watching. Thanks.

3 factors became apparent to me we we started thinking about a small contract(We were already resale owners). The lightning speed at which that these contract were sold, the need for the same use year and the relatively small savings compared to direct. Add to that ROFR and the ease of a direct purchase and my decision was clear. Made a call, agreed to purchase the next day with a cc deposit. Points were in my account within 24 hours. My best guess is it will take us about 4 years of Gold annual passes and dining discounts to recoup the difference between resale and direct small contract. Heck, at the rate it was going with our search we could have waited that long for a contract that fits our needs to become ours.

We might eventually end up going direct also. Hard to find a small contract with our UY also.

All ours are direct anyway but was willing to try resale and get an extra few points for direct price......we shall see.

Hi
"That’s assuming you already own DVC since non owners can’t purchase a contract that small"
This is not true
New non owners can purchase resale contracts anywhere from 25 points and up,,I have purchased many.
To clarify New Direct Owners must purchase more than 25 initial points.Once new owner accumulates 75 direct points they are entitled to current *perks* for as long as they are offered.

You misunderstood me. I was suggesting they consider direct for such a small contract as the price difference isn’t as big BUT then I made note of the fact they couldn’t buy a direct contract under 50 points if they weren’t already DVC owners. Disney doesn’t sell contracts that small except as add ons to current members. I am aware anyone can buy a small resale contract.

Thanks for all the info. Those resale apps are great. While I was at the vet my phone was alerting me to a bunch of new resale small point contracts. Most looked like they would work OK for us, even contemplated a combo of two of them. I almost hit the button on my phone to make an offer but came home and called member services first to get all the info from them.

They were very helpful. I had it in my mind that direct wouldn't work because of the deed/names on my old contract but they will do a new one in just my name. Small contract (50), various choices of resorts, any use year I want, 0% interest for 6 months on disney card. 2019 points and 2020 points will more than cover April trip without borrowing from 2021 or the other contract. So easy. Now to pick a resort.

The guide did say 50 wouldn't qualify us for a "blue card" membership but I already have one. I'll have to do some research but not sure why my husband would need one.

Here is a fairly updated list of all resorts with direct purchase pricing and amount of points necessary,,varies at each resort.

Yes these are the exact prices they gave me. As I started to see the small contracts were much higher per point than larger resale contracts and many didn't have points until 2020 or even 2021.

Just out of curiosity, which resorts did your guide offer you for 50 points? Is it being considered an add-on even though you are deeding it differently, or are you getting 50 points as a "new member" at these resorts?

Just asking because that website only shows OKW and SSR at 50 points for new members. I believe it is a little outdated because my guide mentioned I could get 75 initial points at Poly and/or VGF as a new member (rather than 100 like the chart said).

If you need to match UY, I would just go direct. it could take a very long time to get it otherwise.
(assuming you are a current DVC owner so you can get an add on that small)

I saw that, but he did quote me 50 points w/closing costs for Boulder Ridge, AKL, SS and Boardwalk. I'm supposed to call back today so I'll post later. Like I mentioned, he did keep referring to "blue membership" but that wasn't a concern to me. I started the call asking about add-on, explained what I wanted and he said we can do that. Never mentioned "new member" so I'm not sure how it will play out.

Ok, thank you for explaining! I did start by requesting 100 from my guide because I would be a brand new member and need the 75 points for the blue card so maybe PVB and VGF can also be lower at 50 points? I may ask him just out of curiosity.

Good luck with your resort choice! Can't wait to hear where you pick.

Even if you’re able to purchase 50 direct points at VGF or PVB, you won’t qualify for a blue card. You need at least 75 direct points to qualify. Unless you’re talking about buying a 50-point contract at each? In which case, I strongly urge you to take a good look at the points charts. Fifty points doesn’t get you much at VGF.

Thank you! I do realize the need for 75 points in order to obtain the blue card. I was really just trying to gauge how honest my guide has been with me. I feel he has been transparent, but always nice to hear consistent information across the board.

I am currently on a waitlist for over 75 VGF points. It is painful to know I could get VGF right now for February, March, April, and June. My guide said he doesn't have 2018 points for VGF so he can't sell me August, September, October (what I want), or December just yet soooo I sit and wait.

You won't have to wait long. I was on the waitlist for Dec UY VGF points last month and only waited 2.5 weeks.

By the time I factored in the "double" points going direct and most importantly being able to buy a precise number of points (not rounding up to some higher common increment like 100 points) it ended up costing about the same even at the insane $245pp. Plus the UY matched, etc.

Ahh that makes me so happy yours came in that fast! I actually hit 2 weeks of waiting today. There was a holiday thrown in there, but I planned on calling my guide to follow-up Friday just to keep myself on his radar so that is just about 2.5 weeks.

It would be nice to spread the charges over a few high point earning CCs and get it over with. Also even nicer to finally become a member after 3+ years of research and book part of my spring trip with banked 2018 points and home resort advantage :thumbsup2

I got 60 points at Animal Kingdom direct. Points should be in my account tomorrow. It is a new master contract and I will get a new number. Obviously not the "blue card" membership, but exactly what I wanted. (Well after mulling it over for a few days I went up from 50 to 60. A little cushion but staying within my budget). After a lot of thought about use year I went with April (we've been traveling in April and May and not so much in the summer anymore). Our 200 BRV have a June use year but the contracts wouldn't match up anyway since they are in different names. I'm going to keep watching resale but not in a panic about it now!
