This is just a heads up warning to everyone that uses an ECV, stroller, wheelchair or any other vehicle with a carry-all type basket or bag.

For the first time ever, we witnessed someone rooting through the basket on my DH's personal ECV. We never leave anything of value in it but it did have water bottles and maps. I said something and then DH chimed in (not too nice btw :rolleyes1) and the guy's only response was "I didn't know it was your's". DH kept saying "But it's not YOUR'S so you shouldn't be going through it." He just said "Sorry but I didn't know it was your's" I thought DH was going to launch his disabled self at the guy.

And of course, as luck would have it we ran into this guy again at MK the next night. And conveniently, the guy positioned himself right next to DH's ECV as we were waiting in line for Aladdin. I called to a CM to watch the ECV while DH walked out of line and back to it. The guy quickly scurried away when he saw DH.

We obviously didn't let it ruin our trip but we did become much more aware of our surroundings. So please keep a close eye on all your personal belongings folks. Some people aren't as magical as others. :sad2:

WDW is full of tourists and unfortunately wherever tourists are thieves will be. Most tourists are so busy having fun that they don't pay attention to their surroundings, so make easy pickings for thieves.

I understand and that's why we never keep anything of true value on the scooter. But this was the first time (and we're annual passholders so we go frequently) and this was a father with his wife and 2 children. Kids were around 6 and 8 ages. Just thought it was really odd and quite saddening. :sad2:

Our major city has a high increase in robbing woman over 60 (snatching purses) right now who are alone in parking lots for Wal Mart, Target, grocery stores, etc. in broad daylight. One grocery store chain had three incidences of this in two days. They have hired a security guard outside for the parking lot at the grocery store in question. According to the news the city police spokeperson stated these robbers are watching parking lots for the right moments to prey on these older woman. There was one situation where it was a younger woman robbing an older woman in this grocery store parking lot. The older woman was brave enough to go on our local news to report about it; so, others could be watchful. So, thank you for doing the same.

Anyway, I can see this happening at Disney real easy especially right now. Too many people are caught in a magical moment and they could leave something valuable behind for the thief to get. Even if they don't get money just think of all the cameras and video camcorders that are in Disney every day ready to be stolen.

We are living in different times and I personally feel all of this is only going to get worse everywhere.

I'm not surprised, quite frankly. Several times I've left my scooter while we went into a restaurant (using my cane) or into a shop and come back out to find some total stranger sitting on my scooter, bold as brass. One fellow actually just sat there and stared at me when I stood in front of him and said "What?" I answered, "You're sitting on my scooter." His reply? "Well, you weren't using it." Then he took his sweet time removing himself from my *personal property.* I have also come back and found that people have left their trash and soda cups in my basket! Even at Disney ...

That's just terrible and shows a complete lack of respect.
We have never had a problem with Joshua's wheelchair but it certainly makes you realise you need to keep all your valuables with you. Fortunatley I always carry a gents leather messenger bag so anything of real value is in that, however we have a large bag that fits over the wheelchair that holds suncream, change of clothes for Joshua, towel etc. Let's hope nobody else experiences this, I would have reacted very angrily I must admit.

What the what? That would have made me :furious:. That is very rude and shows a lack of respect for other peoples property:mad:
