To make a long story short my DS and I ended up in our local Target store to buy a wii game and a Nintendo DSi. We went to get the wii game and I realized it was $14 more then the exact game at Target.com. (I had been checking for a good price online earlier in the day) I showed the clerk my phone browser. He was able to price match for me. When he scanned the DSi I thought it seemed high as well but my DS said it was correct. I asked the clerk to please check just in case. I was right, the DSi online was $6 less. We saved $20!

How many people do not check prices and blindly buy? I know I have at times. I am much better with grocery items because I see the same items over and over. But this was a good reminder to me that even if I do not have time to buy online I should check prices.

I almost always check the prices. I went into Target a couple years ago to buy a vacuum and noticed the price was higher than on Target.com. When I mentioned this to the sales associate and customer service, I was told that they are two different entities and don't honor the online prices. I wonder if they changed their policy. I have to try this next time I make a purchase.

I was able to price match target.com for a bike recently. this is on their site now

If you buy a qualifying item at a Target store then find the identical item for less in the following week’s Target weekly ad or within seven days at Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitor’s local printed ad, we’ll match the price. Price match may be requested at Guest Services prior to your purchase with proof of current lower price or by bringing in your original Target store receipt and proof of the current lower price.

On a side note, be sure to use their cartwheel app! I save a few dollars with it each time i shop.

I often see different prices online for the same item. Some even say the price is on-line only. I assume this is due to the online divison not having to support a brick and mortar store?

Target would not match the target.com price for me when my DS bought a game instore and I pulled up the website showing it 20 dollars less on target.com. I was mad and haven't bought a game at Target since.

I ran into this same thing at Kmart. I found a storage cubicle for my daughter's room online. Their website said it was on sale for $29.99 and in stock at our local store. I went to our Kmart to purchase it only to find out it was $49.99 in store and they would not honor the online price. I had to order it online on my phone and then pick it up from the customer service desk to get the sale price. Very frustrating!

This happens at Macys a lot. Always check the .com price before you purchase in store. Sometimes they can match it but other times I have been told that same annoying reason, "We are two different companies!"

yeah right

I think you got lucky. Most stores are more willing to match a competitors price then there own online store.

I was just going to say the same thing. It's silly, really, but they blame the lack of overhead as the reason.

I always check the on-line price when I am shopping. A lot of stores do the "on-line purchase - pick up at store" thing. I started checking this a couple of years ago when I was at Best Buy to get a TV that was on sale. The clerk said there weren't anymore in stock. I went to the Apple Computer display in that store and checked BestBuy.com. There was the TV at the sale price. I put in my ZIP Code and it said in stock, pick up at store. I clicked on buy, waited about 10 minutes, went to customer service, gave them my order number, and, the same employee that twenty minutes before told me that there weren't anymore, rolled a cart with the TV on it to the desk and then out to my truck. I never got a explanation why i was told they didn't have anymore.:confused3 Now if I get any flak about price matching the on-line price I try the "site-to-store" option.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

yep -- found the same thing with a Ipod touch a couple of years ago at Walmart. It was $20 more in store but they wouldn't price match their own website -- even though I could order on line and p/u in the store for the website price.

Bought an Elliptical machine at Sears the other day. Checked prices online (at Sears and other sites) on my phone and the Sears online site had it for $80 cheaper and then another $20 off if you used a promo code. The salesperson said they could take the $80 off no problem but not the $20. He went to his manager and was able to get him to take the extra $20 off too. It really pays to always check. :)

I'm pretty sure Target recently changed their rules (last holiday season) and will now price match the .com prices. :thumbsup2

Saved $100 on a beverage refrigerator at Lowes using RedLaser app. The lower price was even at Lowes.com :thumbsup2

Except that aother poster quoted this from target.com.

"If you buy a qualifying item at a Target store then find the identical item for less in the following week’s Target weekly ad or within seven days at Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitor’s local printed ad, we’ll match the price. It's here.

I do not see the need to get frustrated and not shop a location because of that (like some have said). Online businesses cost a LOT less than brick-and-mortar ones and that is why they are able to offer better prices (think Amazon, for instance!). If it's an issue of them not price matching, simply order it for in-store pick-up. Most companies offer free shipping or cheap shipping - even if a couple dollars for shipping, how much is gas and your time costing you to go to the store?

Other than groceries and pet food/cat litter I bet I do 90% of my shopping online for "new" items (I do go to Goodwill a lot if I am in an area that there is one). I wouldn't walk into Best Buy, Walmart or Target for something since I can order online! :)

Good for you! That is almost complaint worthy though. Wrong that you had to go through all that.

BIL works for Toys R Us and I often see this with them. He says it's annoying as they won't match online sales in stores--not even their own. He says that it's to help create online sales vs. store sales. I guess they need a sales boost in that particular dept.
