Watch your credit card statements from internet orders from the holidays.

I was charged for an order that the payment didn't go through (because the company is based in Hong Kong and my credit card company doesn't approve foreign orders with out calling in).

On their website, it says "payment failed".
I never rec'd their product and I was billed.

I'm trying to dispute it, but can't do anything until Monday.
:confused3

I last read about it in a newsletter from the AARP but I had seen it before.

A company calls you on the phone and you say you are not interested but your credit card is billed anyway. When you dispute the charge the company tells you they have a recording of the phone call saying you did make the order. Turns out the company doctored up the tape to make it sound like you did order the vitamins or magazines or porcelain frogs.

My suggestion, dispute the charge immediately and do not drop your dispute just because the company gives some excuse such as the above.

I do know that it is very easy to doctor up audio recordings even the old fashioned kinds, like cassettes and reels.

I had a charge from Old Navy that went through twice and I called Chase and they took care of it. No problem. :thumbsup2

I had a duplicate charge on my Credit Card bill from Old Navy this Fall. I immediately called Old Navy and they took care it. Good thing, because I order ALOT from them! :)

It seems like you have to constantly check your account at least weekly to make sure these things don't happen.

My sister just got a job from some company in Virginia Beach and she quit after 2 days because she couldn't stomach it. What her job entailed was collections, calling up people who signed up for one thing then got another thing added on in tiny little micetype, something like $500. She said she was calling up clueless people who didn't sound like they had much Internet experience and were basically being shocked into paying this charge they never knew they had in the first place. She also said that all they had to do was mention the Better Business Bureau and the charge would be removed :rotfl2: It sounded like a total scam. She was even told that the company had been shut down once before and reopened under another name.

On her first day some other girl who was there told her that she didn't think she (my sister) would last the week. When sis asked her why the girl said she looked like she had morals, and morals don't last in this business. She was right.

With the holidays over and the bills starting to come due you should watch out for companies trying to take advantage of the time of year when you can forget what you bought.
