Well, here's the thing...I'm going to WDW in July. I'm extremely excited as I haven't been in over 20 years (as a kid).

However, I'm nervous about my size. (I'm 5'8", 320 lbs) I did find some cool information on the allears.net site, but I wanted more feedback if you guys are willing.

I'm worried most about the airplane. (flying USAir) But I also want to ride lots of rides with my DD and DH. If anyone has good or bad experiences, please respond.

Thanks for all your help!

Well, I don't have any experience with this but I wanted to tell you that I hope you have a great trip!

Hi,

I am, as someone on this board put it once, "pooh sized" as well. Actually about the same as you. As for the airplane, you should be fine, the seats will be a little tight, but plenty comfortable. If the seat belt doesn't fit, I always worried that it wouldn't - but 99% of the time it did, just press the call button and ask the attendent for an extension. They have them and they work fine.

As for Disney. I've had no problems with the rides, but I don't do RnR or Space Mt., so I don't know about those. I was worried about Dumbo when we took my niece to Disneyland, but it had plenty of room. The Tea Cups are a little snug, but not uncomfortable.

In resturants the only place I couldn't "fit" were the cars at Sci Fi. They had a picnic table at the back, which was fine, but not as much fun. I won't go back there, the food wasn't great anyway.

Go, Have Fun, and Don't Worry.

I'm 5'8 and weigh 300 and I didn't have a single issue at WDW. I understand your fears. It's kind of weird to go someplace and not run into issues. The only one that was a bit tight was Splash Mountain, only because you have to side in and put your legs under the seat in front of you. Didn't keep me from going or being self concious about it. Aside from that, not a bad experience to speak of.

On planes, aside from leg room that affects anyone over 5'2, I have been fine.

Hope you have a good time. Enjoy yourself and don't worry about it.

My DH is about the same height, but a little bigger. He fluctuates, but we have been twice in the past three years. We didn't have to fly, but I don't remember there being any problems. We are going again in May and I think he's a little bigger than the last times. However, we are taking our DD2 and I will be about 20 weeks pregnant with number 2, so we are planning to take it very slow.
Thank you for this thread, I'm looking forward to some good posts!

One of the greatest things about Disney is the fact that it does accomodate pooh sized people so well. Some theme parks don't and it's awful. Relax, the belts and everything will fit just fine at Disney. As for the plane, ask for the extension if you need it. We took my MIL recently and she's a bit bigger than you-- she didn't find any trouble at the parks and w/ the extension on the plane she was fine. I've ridden most every ride at least once, with the exception of space mtn-- and I haven't had a problem, nor did I feel out of place at any of the water parks either and I'm comfortable w/ my pooh shape!!

HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!

The best thing about WDW is that it is for everyone, every culture, race and size! Have a great trip!

Well, I'm very "Pooh" sized (5'11, 350 lbs and losing!) and I had no problems on any ride. I did all the biggies-- Space, Splash, BTMR, Tower of Terror, Test Track, Rock 'n Roller Coaster, Dinosaur, etc. without any problems. I was very nervous beforehand but everything was fine. Don't worry about it. You'll have a great time!

First time I went to Disney World as an adult, I was 6'2", at 352 pounds with a 54 inch waist.

I'd never felt as comfortable ANYWHERE in public as I did at Walt Disney World.

PLEASE don't demean yourself by saying to watch out for the "big" girl. Everybody is so much more than their size.

You will have a fantastic trip, and take my word for it - there's nothing you can't do at Disney World. :)

Hi there!

I have lost a whole bunch of weight recently but have been exactly where you are. No problems, you will be just fine.

One tip about the airplane. I do not have extensive flying experience but one thing I was told was for my hubby and I to ask for one window seat and one aisle seat and there was a good chance, if the plane was not full, that the middle seat would be empty which gives a lot more room. I was a bit shy to ask for an extension but after thinking about what damage I could do to someone else I did and was given one. I have a feeling that they have to hand a lot of them out so it is not a big deal

One of the many reasons I love Disney is that I have never felt out of place there. The hardest part for me when I weighed well over 300 pounds was getting through the turnstyle. I turned sideways and was just about able to make it. If you think you might have more trouble you can go in the wheelchair/stroller entrance I am sure. Never had a bit of trouble with any rides or anything although I do not do rollercoaster type things.

Have a blast and hope this slightly big gal meets you while I am there. LOL

Disrookie0704 ~ Thanks for posting your question. Although I too have read the allears.net section regarding "pooh sized" people, I am still happy to read more of people's personal experiences. I can't help but worry. I'm 5'2, 235 pounds, and I have a VERY ample bosom (sorry! wasn't sure how else to get the point accross! :o ) I've been to other theme parks where I wasn't able to fit into some of the rides due to the way the restraints fastened.

Anyone else out there care to let us in on your personal experienc? TIA!!

On earth in my opinion and you are going to have a magical time. You are going to have a great time and do all you want with no problems. So don't worry please, just plan on what you want to do and see and think of all the great memories you are going to have of your trip.::yes:: :goodvibes :wave2:

You guys have made me feel so much better. I am 1000 times more exited than I was before (if that's possible)!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

lasmickey--I am built almost exactly as you stated. Except for Mission Space (which 'll be trying in August), I've never had any trouble on the rides.

I do have a few tips:

Space Mountain: It's easier to get out, if you sit in the the back.

Rock n Roller Coaster: Bring the collar down as far as possible, even if it does 'smash' alittle ;) . If you don't, when you go through the loops you will move around alot more.

Dinosaur, Body Wars, Star Tours or any ride with a retractable seat belt: When you are getting into the seat BUT before you sit down, pull the belt out then sit down and click it in. So much easier.

I hope everyone has a magical trip!

5'10"...300 lbs. here. Had no trouble anyplace at Disney. Just as a hint if you get into a ride that has a seat belt like Dinosour or Test Tract, as you sit down pull the seat belt all the way out and hold it in place with your free hand until you get it buckled. It saves a lot of time and possible embarrassment. Everything else is a piece of cake.

On airlines I automatically ask for the extension. Almost all belts will fit me but they don't have a lot of leeway so it is just easier and more comfortable to have one. Most of the time the attendants will say... you don't look like you need one and that, my friend, will make your day.

Have a great time and (this is not a slam but) you will find that compared to some you are quite thin. Have a great time!

:crazy: ::yes:: :wave: :earsboy:

candykisses ~ Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate hearing from someone else in my "situation". I really do feel much better about it now!

Everyone on these boards are sooo helpful and soooo nice! What would I do without the DIS!?!?

I am pooh sized too and have very large chests that is the only time i havfe had a problem, when pulling down stuff that goes overhead like mission space rocking roller coaster/seaworlds Krakken, Universals Hulk etc.. but it only takes my dear hubby or friend to push down on the thing before they sit down so that the belt can be hooked (smoosh those puppies flat!!!) I am 5'6 215 but a trriple dd on top so it is soable no matter what have fun and enjoy!!! Also they usually have a row in the middle that is for POOH sized people that has a larger belt ext ... learned that last time I was at sea world and Universal and Rocking coaster...

The only issue DH had was at Disney Quest. DD7 had made a Space Mountain coaster and due to his size, DH wasn't allowed to ride w/her (he could have ridden alone though). I guess the restraint was made for both passengers and it wouldn't go down low enough for DD to be secure. Other than that, we had no problems. Have a great trip!
