My mother just called with a problem and I am hoping someone here has had this.

She has an older house with wood siding and the wasps have crawled up into the siding and made a nest. She has sprayed and is currently duct taping the siding to the piece below it (This must look attractive!) Any suggestions?

(I suggested an exterminator, but my Mom is cheap and wants to try to get these out herself first.)

If your Mother doesn't want to use an exterminator, then take a dead wasp or identify one at the exterminator place of business. I had a relative with wasps in between the siding and the walls and he was told that because of the many varities of wasps you need to get the right pesticide - insecticide to get rid of them.
I hope this helps.

Hmm.. I think I will just keep pushing for the exterminator.

I use Ortho Hornet and Wasp killer. Has a range of about 25'.
Kills them on contact, great stuff.

Taping the siding up, thus trapping them inside, is NOT a good thing. If bees/wasps/yellow jackets aren't able to exit through the original way they will chew through to make another exit, and it's usually right into the house. Your mom could experience something quite nasty when the wasps end up exiting into her house! I grew up in an old farmhouse and we had several encounters where wasps/bees made their homes in places we couldn't kill them with the Raid. An exterminator can usually rid the problem in a few minutes, while it could take you days to fight with the insects and get injured in the meantime.
