Ms. Obsessive Trip Planner here, I am still working on our Nov. DW vacation, but I am also thinking ahead. How are the crowds in DC over Easter? We have been wanting to take the kids to DC for a while, but just haven't. I was thinking about their spring break in 2006. I think it is the week after Easter. Will the crowds be bad at that time? Do you think that would be better than going in the summer? (Yes, I know it will be really, really hot in the summer.) We would probably go the Wednesday after Easter and stay until Saturday or Sunday. We will probably stay w/ my Uncle in Alexandria.

TIA! :sunny:

It's usually VERY crowded, and the weather can be iffy, depending on how early Easter is this year. Many of the schools who do DC field trips do them over spring break. I can remember fighting through the food court around that time of year. Yuck!!

I personally think Columbus Day or Veterans Day are good times to go. It's usually beautiful weather in October (can be nasty in November, but can be okay). There's NEVER a lot of people there. The only thing to double check is when the museums are closed. They have shorter hours in the "off season", and sometimes close on holidays. But things like the memorials are all outdoors and never close.

it's one of the most crowded times of year.

i second tkd lisa's suggestion of october. the weather is nice but not too humid. no crowds.

We went over spring break last year (& Easter). I didn't think it was that bad. Just get to where you're going early. We did this for the Mint & the Archives & Holocaust Museum & had no problems.

If your kids are under 8, write the White House & try to get in on the egg roll (we didn't write soon enough).
