I'm looking for a very last minute trip and found a hotel but was wondering if it was close to everything (museums/shopping/monuments) -besides the capital building.

This is the address
Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill
400 New Jersey Avenue, NW,
Washington, D.C., USA

Please help! Thanks!

I don't know exactly where the hotel is, but if it's close to the Capitol building, it's close to the museums and the monuments. It often comes up on Priceline, so you could check the reviews on biddingfortravel.

:teeth: :teeth: This is pretty much right next door to my office.

I posted a link to it a few weeks ago for a DIS member who was looking for cheap accommodations right in DC.

The good points:

It is a brand new hotel. Just opened about 2 months ago.
It is a very short walk to a Metro stop
Very good rate for D.C.

Bad points:
It is probably in one of the least desirable neighborhoods in the city.
You will not be able to do anything right around the hotel in the evening.

This hotel is located in "Southeast" Washington, DC. Notoriously the "crime" area. Where this particular hotel is located is in a big transition area. I started working there 4 years ago BEFORE they tore down the "projects" and put anything up. When I first started working there, we watched regular drug busts, a few employees got shot, it was awful. That has slowly improved. Although, my co-worker got her car stolen this past Tuesday (she was using street parking versus the garage).

During the day, the area is filled with government workers, defense contractors, and construction workers. It is right across the street from the Washington Navy Yard and it has become a hub for defense work. After 5:00 p.m., I wouldn't go walking around down there.

If all you are doing is sleeping in the hotel and will be to and from the Metro during "VERY" daylight hours, it will probably be a great place to stay.

Oh God, forget my last post. I misread your post and thought you meant the new Marriott Courtyard (also on New Jersey Avenue but farther from the Capitol). Stupid me!!

So its a good one? I wouldn't want to get shot on a weekend getaway or any other time for that matter. :)

Well, I can't vouch for it. It seems to be close to the Capitol and has a NW address so I'm sure it is fine.

It looks great. Just 3 blocks to Union Station-transportation hub, lots of restuarants and shops as well as the start point for on off trolley. The hotel looks marvelous, perfect amenities and all new beds!!! Have fun.
