We are contemplating a trip to DC mid July. Earlier this year (maybe last year) I saw a thread that mentioned a hotel that was fairly close to a metro station. In doing a search, I can't seem to find it or either I've overlooked it.

Anyway, I'm looking for recommendations on places to stay on the west to southwest side of DC. We're not opposed to riding the metro in and would stay out as far as Manassas.

I'm really interested in suite hotels. I've been looking at tripadvisor but wanted to hear from ya'll first hand too.

Thanks!

The Embassy Suites in Chevy Chase, Maryland is built over a Metro stop and there are also several hotels in Bethesda that are within a block or two of that Metro station.

Grand Hyatt is in the city. There is a metro station in the "basement" of the hotel. You basically go two escalators and you are in the Metro Station metro stop.

Embassy Suites Chevy Chase is also built above the metro line. It is the same day, two escalators rides downstairs to the metro.

There are plenty of hotels in Crystal City/Pentagon City ....probably listed as ARlington VA. There are 2 metro stops - Crystal City and Pentagon City.

I can guarantee there is an EMbassy Suite located in Crystal City/Arlington.

Last summer we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Chevy Chase as one poster has mentioned. It was so convenient because of the Metro station right below. The hotel was also very nice and it has the 2 room suites which gave us more room. If you need the bus line, it is right outside the Metro station.

Yep we will be staying here from Fri til next Wed. It looks nice and close to the Pentagon City Metro station.

Doubletree in Rockville, MD is right next to a metro station.

We stayed here 2 years ago. They have a shuttle to and from the metro at the nearby airport. We liked this place. Converted apt buildings. Only downfall was no elevators (3 floors) or nearby places to eat, but you can have food delivered. We found this place to be the cheapest and most hotels were sold out when we visited DC. I would stay there again.

I was looking at some of the hotels mentioned and, gulp!, I don't know if I can work with over $200 a night. I think that we will have to find a place a little less expensive and a little farther out. I could handle something up to $150 but it wouldn't be easy.

I heard on the news a few months ago that Washington, D.C. was the second most expensive place to vacation (right behind Honolulu Hawaii). Of course, that survey was taking into account that a person would be calling the hotel and paying "rack" rates. I suppose there are discounts to be found.

Anything right over top of a Metro station is going to be pricey. Have you checked anything in Crystal City. The Marriott is right over top of the Metro and sometimes, I know they offer lower rates (but usually in the off-season between Thanksgiving and Christmas).

Right now it will be hard to find a hotel for $150.00, but DH was working downtown (sorry, after living there for so lonmg, DC is always Downtown to us) last week and stayed at Hampton Inn Alexandria, south of the city limits, but not far. It was I think 159.00 per night.

If you go as far as Manassas, you will have to drive up 66 to at least Vienna to catch the Metro. That is as far as it goes in VA on the west side.

BTW, as hot and humid as it is in FL, expect the same in the DC area. Pretty at night, but pretty dang humid!

It's the same. About twenty years ago we visited my DH's sister when she lived in Manassas. We drove a mile or so to get on the Metro. It wasn't so bad. I guess we will have to do something like that. We also visited my aunt in Rockville that same trip. The parking lot was always full at her Metro station. That's why I thought it would be nice to stay somewhere close to a station but we just may have to wing it.

Now, this hotel just open about a month ago. I can look out my office window and see it.

I am right across the street from the Navy Yard. It would be fine to walk to and from the Metro stop during the day from this hotel. Lots of workers and all the "projects" have been torn down. I would not do so in the evening. If you don't care about any of that and are just interested in day touring, I think it is very affordable (looks to be about $109 per night), it is BRAND new. It is also in DC, close to the Navy Yard Metro station, and you could get where you need to be VERY quickly.

this is the hotel my parents always stay at when they come to visit - it is pretty nice.

I know what you mean. We moved to Rockwall about 12 years ago from Dallas (we're just across the lake but in another county). Since this is a small town, we've always talked of "going to town" as meaning going to Dallas. :rotfl:

We'll have two teenage girls with us so I doubt we will stay in during the evening much. That's also why I'm only looking at hotel's with suites. And if our son can get off of work, we'll definately need a suite. We just might have to shorten our stay to accomodate the price.

I'll keep looking.
