I have a Kenmore washing machine thats about 12-14 years old. No maintenance has ever been done on it. We had noticed over the last year that the vibration was getting worse. Now its so bad that a vase in the master bedroom upstairs rattles when its in the spin cycle. I was planning to get Sears to come out but my husband is worried that it will be something so expensive that it might be better to just replace it. Does anyone have experience with this? What could the problem be? How long do washing machines last? I am pregnant and due in December and having a working washing machine is pretty important.

I don't think I'd put much money into a machine that old. I'm pretty sure the average life expectancy for a washer is 10-12 years, so your's has done a good job for you. :)

A service call is likely going to cost $100 anyhow, and you still have an old machine when they leave. You can get a really good machine for under $500. Yes, a lot of money, but you get a new, under warranty machine for it.

yep I agree not worth replacing at this point. I would suggest checking to make sure it is balanced. When it isn't loaded see it woobles. If that is the case then you can adjust the small knobs under the base.
We just replaced our washer...got a whirl pool duet front loading washer! Can I just say WOW! The clothes come out so much cleaner! my whites are actually white! Didn't realize it before! Plus it holds so much!
