Washing dishes?

As newer DVC members, I don't remember reading on what the protocol is on washing dishes you dirty during your stay. So what's the scoop, and does it differ based on the circumstances?

- Point reservation vs. DVC cash discount reservation
- couple of barely used plates from a quick breakfast (not near enough to fill the dishwasher)

I assume if you really used stuff and could fill the dishwasher you would start the dishwasher for Mousekeeping on yoru checkout morning. But what about when you only have a few plates and forks?

Thanks

I haven't actually stayed at DVC yet (first time in 18 days!) but the protocol when I stay at a suites hotel is to put any dishes I've used in the dishwasher and start it up. Even if its only 1 plate and a fork, you turn on the dishwasher for that. I would suppose that the protocol would be the same here. Comments?

If you only have a couple plates, I would just leave them in the sink. Housekeeping could decide if they want to put them through the dishwasher or take them to a central cleaning and replace the dishes. If you also have forks, I would run the dishwasher since they need to be sanitized.

We typically run the dishwasher half way through the stay and have enough dirty dishes at the end to run the washer before we leave. We start it up right before leaving so housekeeping knows they are clean.

We run the dishwasher every couple of days. It doesn't matter if there is just a few things in there. I am NOT going to leave dirty dishes for housekeeping to do. When we are checking out, I often start the dishwasher as we leave and let the housekeeper know by leaving a note. When the housekeepers run the dishwasher, they usually stop the cycle half way through so they can put the dishes away. This results in the dishwasher cycle being all messed up when you first want to use it. I have had that happen too many times. That's also why you hear stories about dishes not being clean. If they let it run full cycle, they will be clean.

I think typically MKs are going to run the stuff through the DW anyway so we put any soiled dishes, utensils, coffee pot and filter holder, cutting board, etc. into it and get it going with the thought of cutting as much time as we can off of the next visitors check-in.

We also empty the ice tray into the sink, collect all soiled towels, wash cloths, dish towels, and put them into the bathtub. We get all trash and recyclables bagged and staged by the door. Again, this is to help cut the preparation time for the next visitor.

Getting an early room is wonderful... so we try to make that more likely for someone.

We tend to cook meals in the villa, so we put everything in the dishwasher, including pots. Then I run the dishwasher just about once a day. It's great because I don't feel like I'm "washing dishes" while on vacation, and we always have plenty of clean dishes, etc. I don't leave stuff in the sink when checking out.

amen!!!

As we use something we rinse them and put them in the dishwasher. No way I would waste water and electricity for a small load when I still had clean dishes to use.

If there is a pot or pan that there is only one of I hand wash it.

We run the dishwasher when it is full or when we check out.

I guess we use lots of dishes, glasses and cups in our villa as it seems I run a full load at least every other day!! I like my villa nice and tidy looking the way it was when we walked in. :) I never leave dishes in the sink and usually run my last load as we are packing up and leaving. :)

:thumbsup2 Ditto.

I'm in the club of cleaning up before leaving... we typically run the dishwasher and put all dishes away prior to checking out.

We typically wash the dishes in the dw when we first arrive to make sure that they are clean. We also wash dishes daily by hand if there are only few and make we sure that they are clean and put away when we leave. Since this is our home away from home we feel we should keep it clean, isn't that normal.:confused3

This describes us as well.

So THAT'S why I had trouble with the dishwasher at BCV the last time. It started in the middle of the cycle and confused the heck out of me.

I always start the dishwasher on the morning we check out. By then the breakfast dishes are in there and everything will be clean for the housekeeping staff when they get to the villa. It doesn't matter if there are only a few dishes, I always make sure I've started the dishwasher.
