Washing bedspread/blankets before you sleep in them?

I was just wondering if anyone washed the resort bedspread or blankets before you sleep in them. I've read enough nasty threads about what lurks on them, but I've also always slept on them an never had an issue. We will be staying a week this year and I'm bringing detergent just in case we need to do a quick load for anything and figured since I already have it, I could use it on the bedspread. Or then again, maybe I'm going too far! :confused3

kjs1976 I understand you COMPLETELY!!!

although we have never actually washed the sheets or anything, but I have read some leery things about hotel sheets as well...I try not to think of the icky things I try and bi-pass it with :wizard: disney magic...haha, but we know sometimes that can't even overcome all!!! hahaha

I would like to see what people have to say about this as well...

P.S. *thinks about buying detergent when she gets to WDW*

Imagine the looks you'd get lugging the hotel bedspread down to the laundry room! :goodvibes Technically, are you even allowed to do this? If you could, I'd be doing it too!

Wow, I understand your concern...who knows what's been on those things??? But, if it were really creeping me out (I have a pretty high tolerance level for creepy things, and doubt I'd do this unless it were really bad), I'd have Mousekeeping bring me a freshly laundered set of bedding...after all, YOU are on vacation!

The first thing I do while on vacation is take off the bedspread, fold it and put it in a closet or out of the way. I'm not sure the blanket is as much of a problem as the bedspread. You could probably find another blanket in a closet or drawer somewhere, or else ask for a clean one, rather than spend your vacation time anywhere, not just DisneyWorld, washing bedding.

Yea, ok, so I obviously don't want to wash bedding on my trip and I know I can ask MK for a "clean" one, but I was just wondering if anyone actually did this.

BTW...does everyone know that all linens and costumes/uniforms are washed in a central location at WDW. They are shipped off to this place and are returned from this place...forgot the name now...got to tour it during my intern training...pretty fascinating!

The washing machines are not large enough to wash the comforters on the bed and I would be so embarrased to even attempt such a thing, I would imagine everyone would think you were trying to steal it.

Blankets and sheets are clean when you check in. To me the comforter is no different from a sofa, or a chair. I just take it off and never give it another thought. I can't imagine sleeping under one anyway.

Bedspreads are not meant to be washed frequently. They don't hold up well at all. I can only imagine how much extra we'll all be charged when Disney has to replace bedspreads more frequently.

If your worried about it, take it off the bed.

I always take a big beach towel and put in on the bedspread (same side always touching the bedspread) when I sit on it. My DH and DS's couldn't care less. They plop down on the bedspread without a second thought. I just can't help but think people change baby diapers on them, and who knows what else.

What we have done in the past and will do on all future visits is call and request all fresh clean linens and fresh clean bedspreads be brought to our room. The last time we did this they put them on for us while we were there but I was willing to do it myself. We just give them a nice tip and they are happy to help you out.

The gentleman who helped us out even stopped by our room a couple times to ask if there was anything else he could do for us. He brought us lots of pens, notepads and postcards for the kids one day and we didn't even ask him to. So I don't think he was annoyed by our request for new bedding, just the opposite.
