Washing a Disney Pillow Pet

I accidentally slept on my Pluto with wet hair and it's starting to smell a little.

The Pillow Pet website says to wash in a white pillow case, cold water and gentle cycle.

Has anyone actually done this and had it turn out well? It also says to air dry but I'm afraid that in the heat and humidity of summer I'll have the same smelly problem. Should I wait it out until the humidity breaks? I assume I just use regular detergent for washing?

Any suggestions or advice would be helpful! I manage my day to day laundry fine, but it's hardly my area of expertise!!

I have washed pillow pets in the washing machine and put them in the dryer without any problems.

I have washed my son's Lightning McQueen Pillow pet several times in my washing machine, although I have never put it in the dryer.
I always use a pants hanger (the kind with clips) to hang it in the laundry room for several hours to dry out. If you hang it outside or in a well ventilated room, you shouldn't have "the smell".
Usually it's the dryer that ruins plushies and not the washer. Never put a plush with long furry hair in the dryer, the fibers overheat and turn it into a matted, singed, ruined, mess. (learned this the hard way when my oldest daughter was little, and I ruined her favorite kitty toy ).
I don't think you would have to worry about that with a Pluto, but I know several of the pillow pets have a little fluff of fur (hair), on the top of their head that a dryer would ruin.

Hope this helps. :)

[make sure you put it in something though, I didn't and it got caught on something in the machine and ripped it open.

I would first try Fabreeze ( spelling? ) and put poor Pluto outside to air out

You on the other hand belong in the dog house bad bad :rotfl2:

I have done it - make sure to tie the pillowcase with a rubber band because sometimes a knot comes untied. I put mine in the dryer on low heat with a tennis ball to fluff it up. I used unscented Tide.

We don't have a Disney pillow pet, but my DD has a bunch of regular pillow pets. DD takes them to daycare for naps. I wash at least one every few weeks. I wash them in a pillowcase on gentle cycle and in the dry on low. No issues.
