Curious if anyone has ever tried using washi tape to hang up a few decorations in their state room? It is a paper tape that is kind of like a sticky note. Does not pull up paint and is repositionable.

Well, DCL has stated that "any adhesive or tape" is not allowed. I take that to mean you shouldn't use it.

Here's the full policy:
More and more guests are choosing to express their family pride and enthusiasm for Disney Cruise Line by decorating their stateroom doors aboard our ships.

As you might imagine, it is very important to us to keep our facilities looking their best for all our guests.

As part of our commitment to this area of focus, we ask that guests no longer affix anything to their stateroom door utilizing any adhesive or tape.

We have found that these adhesives damage the finish on the stateroom doors and therefore ask that guests limit door decoration to those of the magnetic variety.

PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY GEL DECORATIONS...THEY DISCOLOR THE DOORS AND FURNITURE.

It's your call as to whether you follow it.

Disney asks that you don't use adhesive on you door, but that isn't what you asked.

Many folks use sticky notes in their rooms, these do not leave a residue. I'm familiar with washi tape, the "washi" designation refers to the wood fiber composition of the tape, not the adhesive. There are websites from manufacturers that claim it leaves no residue.

If I were doing it, I'd use painters tape (the ugly blue stuff) or the stick part of a sticky note. These are not very strong (important!), but very surface friendly. I have read that some college dorms specify the students use painters tape to protect the walls. Sounds good to me.
