They are free. I haven't ever used them but my understanding is that they have what look like traditional coin slots like a coin operated machine would have. Did your daughter slide those in (without putting coins in them)?? I think you have to do that.
If that doesn't work, I'd have her contact a CM for assistance. I would think that Maintenance might be the right call.

Yes, that's exactly what she's supposed to do. When I was at BCV several years ago, I ran into the same thing. Well, I felt like Chevy Chase in "Vacation" when he was looking where to put gas in his new car. I just kept staring at it trying to figure out what to do. Finally, I just pushed in the coin slots as you'd do if you'd put the coins in. Only difference-I hadn't put any coins in. However, voila-the machine started.

I had the same issue at SSR in April. Luckily, another guest came into the laundry room and must have seen the puzzled look on my face. She was very sweet and clued me in about how to do my laundry at DVC!
I am glad that this was "discussed " here and I clicked on the post! Otherwise, I would have been another "confused" DVC guest trying to do the laundry! Thanks!!
