Do you use washable mop heads or washable mop pads?

How do you clean them?

Seriously, it seems like a waste to wash one mop pad at a time, and I wouldn't want to throw it with with a load of laundry. Or is it even good to put it in your washer if you pick up dog hair, dirt, thicker/bigger particles?

I have one dry mop washable pad that I've tried hand washing, and I still can't get all the dog hair out of the fibers.

I have the Orange Glo ones for hardwood floors. I usually go through 2 of them at a time. I know it's a waste, but I wash them in the machine on the small load setting, then set them out to air dry.

Do you sweep your floors first? We have a dog that sheds constantly and so we have to sweep the floors first and that gets up any big particles and all the dog hair/dirt and then we mop.

We use an O-mop and love it. I have two mop heads and I use one on half the house and one on the other half. They get thrown into the wash along with our full loads- usually with our towels- or dog towels or rugs. Not wasteful at all and the mop solution is safe and eco-friendly for kids/pets who are crawling around on the floor. It also doesn't give me a headache when I mop- I HATE the strong, awful smell of Swiffer

To me Swiffer pads are a waste... I prefer the "old-fashioned" mop. I can take the mophead off and toss it into the wash.

I have a Shark steam mop and just throw the pads in with my regular laundry, usually the towels. I sweep my floors before I mop so I don't pick up a lot of particles and the steam mop doesn't use chemical cleaners (just water) so I don't have to worry about that.

I also have the Shark steam mop.....love it.
I put the pads in with my bleach batch along with the regular things that go in there.

I usually wash mine with dog towels and floor mats. Even if it is a smaller load.

can you guys tell me more about the steam mop?
we have terrazo and mexican tiles floors and I hate the regular mop but the swiffer doesn't seem to work either.

I have the shark pocket mop (retails for about $120 but I got it at bed bath and beyond using the 20% coupon). I always sweep my floors first. Then you just add water, plug in and let it heat up (about 30 seconds). You pump it up a little and then just use a regular mopping motion. If you have an especially dirty area just hold the mop over and pump a few extra times to get some more steam. The unit flips over so you can use both sides of the pad. When you are done just wash the pads and use again. It is very quick, easy and economical and works great!

I have a marble tile in my bathrooms and they always got streaky. They look great with the steam mop. I also can't believe how clean my kitchen floors look now. I "thought" they were clean before, but wow what a difference after the steam mop!!!

Love the shark....mine is about 2 years old, so not the pocket one. I got mine at Costco for about $70...it came with 5 pads.
No matter how clean I think my floor is (there are just 2 of us and we don't wear shoes in the house), the pads are still always super dirty!!

I bought a second for my AZ house......tons of tile flooring. We go through all 5 pads each time there.....you can sure feel the difference walking on them...so clean.

so you just wash the pads in the washer? How many does it come with to begin with and do you guys feel you need to buy more?

Yup, just throw them in. Just can't use fabric softener on them.

The Pocket Mop came with 2 triangle pads (I use those for small areas like my bathrooms) and 2 large rectangular pads. I have about 500 feet of tile in my downstairs and I use 1 pad each time and flip it over about half way through. The first few times I used both pads because my floors were so dirty, but now I only use one at a time. It also comes with a purple "duster" type pad but I don't use that one. I assume it would work well on wood floors, but I don't have any of them.

I have a Libman Microfiber mop-on-a-stick :rotfl: I don't know what it's "official" name is.

I throw mine in the washer after each floor mopping. Just normally along with whatever load is going in the washer next. Then I let it air dry.

This reminds me that not only do I have laundry tonight, but that I also need to wash floors. :headache:

I have a microfiber mop and love it. I have several pads and use them when i don't want to wash my floors by hand. I use microfiber rags for all of my cleaning so i wash them all together.
