Was your puppy raised in a crib?

I can't believe I'm STILL getting flack for this! When Petey came home to us I got one of those port a cribs for him. He slept in it right next to my side of the bed (can't pee on the bed that way). If we had company or I needed him out from under foot for a bit I'd put him in the crib with his toys. If I was going outside to sit in the sun or garden I'd put him in it so he could enjoy the sunshine but not have to be on a leash. I thought it was a brilliant idea. I was just talking to my MIL who mentioned that all her friends got a real laugh out of the doggie crib at lunch last week. I can't be the only person who's ever done that can I?

No, I never thought about putting Minky in a crib. Of course, he is bigger than a greyhound, so a crib wouldn't do much but aggravate him I guess your crib serves the same purpose as a crate.

I once had a puppy that for the first couple of nights slept in a cardboard box next to my bed and she would only sleep if my arm was hanging down from the bed into the box. I do have to chuckle whenever I see my neighbors walking their dog in a baby stroller.

I've never heard of it, but I think it's a great idea! Sure beats a cardboard box!

I didn't do it, but I would've if I'd thought about it! We did use baby gates, though, to keep him out of the kitchen and the hall back to the bedrooms. We always crated him at night from his first night, and when we left the house. He loves his crate. He gets excited when I clean it, and it's his sanctuary from the kids when they're too boisterous, and when he's chewed up something important, and when he hears thunder.

I think it is a great idea. No different then using an ex-pen to keep them cofined to an area. Whenever we had a litter of pups, they slept in a puppy pen in the bedroom.

My dog is way too big for a crib, but she has her crate, same idea, IMO.

My mom had a poodle-mix that played in a port-a-crib! It was abused in its previous home and was very nervous and peed a lot. So my mom bought a used crib at a yard sale and made it the dog's safe area. It worked pretty well.

Not much difference between a crib and a "puppy pen" just one is marketed for kids and one for dogs.. LOL. If I would have had a crib hanging around, would have used that when I got Dot.
I think it was a great idea.

I didn't even raise my children in a crib. We used the crib solely for holding clean laundry. When we brought home our puppy (she's gone now-old age) she slept with us in our bed (pre-kids). If it worked for you, why should anyone make fun of it?

My neighbor put her adult Pomeranian in a port-a-crib when she was expecting puppies. She actually delivered five little puppies in there and that is where they lived for the first few days!!

My mom had a toy poodle when I was little so she took the crib and cut off the legs added wheels and put that dog in it and moved Sherrie from one room to another. I think your MIL was just trying to get your goat and yes you are brilliant for thinking up that idea.

It sounds like Petey is happy and that is all that matters. One of my internet friends used a crib for her rescue Scottie. The dog had some health issues, so she wanted her close by and the crib insured she was safe in her new environment. I think it is a very good idea!

Years ago when I went to buy one of my Toy Poodles, the breeder was using a port-a-crib and I loved the idea. Never used one myself...always just put the dog right up in bed with me. We did buy a play pen (for babies) and took with us when visiting relatives last year. We kept Spider in it when we were preparing meals and eating or doing things where he didn't need to be underfoot. He whined *a lot* and it almost drove me nuts but we had no choice. I imagine the people joking about Petey being raised in a crib actually find the idea cute.

I think that is a good idea. Also, makes me think of the Dick Van **** show where he had to babysit a german shepard and ended up putting it in the crib in their room.
