I would never ask invited guests to a formal event to work at the event. Especially my wedding. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and celebrate with me. Not make food and mop up messes.

The only time I would find guests working the event acceptable is if it is an informal, family and friends, backyard type of event - very casual.
