Was this a stupid idea

There is so much junk for a kid to buy in Disney I can say almost for sure trying to make a deal is going to back fire on you. I agree with the PPs. I wouldn't "charge" my child for the toy I bought. I think the best thing would be to have little trinkets ready for them. The spin toy the first night. Then maybe you could whip out some glow sticks the other nights. They are cheap and kids love them.

I went on our last trip equipped with many glow sticks and some spinner things I got at the Disney Store on clearance for $1.99. The kids knew that I had those things for them and if they still wanted a Disney glow thing they had to buy it with their own souvenir money, no exceptions. They did buy 1 thing each while waiting for Fantasmic, but it was their choice and they were happy with it. I wouldn't have thought to charge them for the things I brought, but you have to decide what will work best for your family.

When the kids were little we would pre-buy lots of Disney SALE stuff and ship it down. Each night Mickey would leave something on their bed for them in the morning. If I knew we were going to be in the parks late and we were going to see a parade.....behold....Mickey would leave a spinner. If we were going to MK maybe a princess dress etc. We stopped this when the kids were older but now we have a 3 year old and guess what? The box is already in the basement with things ready to be mailed out. We always let the kids pick out one big item (Stuffed animal, toy) from the trip and if they didnt ask or bother we would pick up a few things here and there if there was something they really liked. I have to say they were pretty good. One of the trips we went on my daughter who was 7 at the time wanted to take a rock home from the Poly....there was a flat shiny rock in the stream...I have no idea how she spied it but we had to look at it every day. That was all she wanted. She named it "Stoney". Well, one of the men who took care of the plants got it for her. DD is 15 and "Stoney " is in a box in her room....I am happy to say she is a very well adjusted, smart kid. I have no idea where the rock idea came from. Unfortunatly now she wants things like I-pods etc..... Darn if only she still just wanted rocks
