Was DVC required to close its resorts?

It was simply a thought. I’m sure they are covering their home base first. The rest of us come second. I’m not sure who would be interested in getting new management? I’m simply saying maybe it’s time We the Owners also have a say in what we pay for/into.

I think they are doing all they can at this point. The only thing I take issue with are **the ones they **extended grace to by allowing them to save points that were pass the deadline while saying too bad so sad to the ones after they extended. All things considered, If they move to remain close after the orders are lifted, then I would be unhappy with that decision.

That really isn't possible. Read your paperwork. DVC appoints a board member that acts as a proxy for owners. They have listened to members for somethings, like when real coffee mugs disappeared from studios, and then with the point reallocations (though I suspect Legal looked into that, and decided DVCM was in the wrong) They are pretty limited in what they can and can't do in these situations, under our contracts AND under FL timeshare laws. I'm sure they will do what they can, once all the fallout is known, and how many members/points are affected.

Timeshares are what they are. Nothing more, no matter what brand is slapped onto them. That said, some are better than others. DVC, Marriott, Hilton are all pretty much industry gold standards. I really doubt that HIlton, Marriott or Bluegreen would do anything much differently.

No court will ever hold that Disney and DVC could not close the resorts when they were reacting to a pandemic and health and safety is a major issue, and that is regardless of whether there were any state mandates. The issue most are actually concerned with is what would be the obligations of Disney, as to those who reserved hotel rooms, and DVC as to members who reserved DVC resort rooms, even assuming there were never any state mandates..

The answer is that Disney and DVC do have an obligation in that situation but it does not really help DVC members. Unless the applicable contracts actually require more, Disney must return the amounts paid for the hotel rooms and DVC must return whatever was provided for the resort reservations. As to DVC, its only obligation, absent the POS documents requiring more, is to return what was actually provided -- the points in exactly the status they had when the reservation was made, e.g., banked points remain banked, borrowed points could remain borrowed and current use year points are returned as current use year points. DVC did modify the relief as to borrowed points, allowing those to be put back into their original use year, and thus actually did more than required.

Welll......

Now with the stay at home order expiring next week, its going to be interesting to see what DVC does.

Sounds like Orange County suggested today that they may give the theme parks the ability to decide timeline in conjunction with CDC guidelines, as long as it doesn’t supersede governors phases,

I felt even more positIve of a June reopening for DVC resorts.

CDC guidelines will expire this week. Just saw that on the news.

Governors will now make the decisions when it comes to "social distancing"

so lets see what happens........

I think June too

Mayor of Orange County will hold a news conference tomorrow. Will be watching this one to see what he says. He is going to outline his plan for opening Orlando.

Unless he himself puts in some kind of order, come Monday, there will be nothing stopping DVC from being open.

So lets see what he says tomorrow......

Well, they can't open immediately. Remember that DVC is staffed through contracts with Disney, using WDW resort employees. So if Disney is being cautious and isn't providing staff, DVC isn't going to open. It depends upon Orange County, Reedy Creek, and Disney Resorts as to whether DVC resorts will be operating any earlier than Disney World as a whole. And it depends upon if they can get enough hand sanitizer and dispensers to place near the quick service places, bus stops, and restaurants throughout the property. It's gonna take a ton of them.

Yes, what I meant is, there would be no local or state laws in effect that they can use as the reason for being closed.

So according to the POS they would have to open ASAP. Whatever their definition of "ASAP" is

Yes, the POS makes mention of a reasonable amount of time, and I agree, a month or so would be that,

The official order from the governors state of emergency does not expire until May 9th, even as he is opening things up.

But, I agree, with the county presumable giving Disney the ability to make its own decisions based on CDC and other guidelines...the federal ones as well...I do think we will see a June opening.

For me the issue with reopening is sanitization of the room and linens (meaning my housekeeper must wear a face mask at all times when working in the room) as well as allowing housekeeping/security entry into my room every day.

We can launder our own sheets, bring our own pillows, sanitize every touchable surface in our rooms with a bit of effort, but with the security changes as of 2 years back, we cannot stop somone who may have the virus but is asymptometic from entering our rooms. That part bothers me as our rooms should be the one place where we can let our guard down a bit.

I think it is likely that the daily security inspections will be put on hold.

Are they going back to bar soap in the rooms and showers?

Will the security inspections change for getting into the parks and on the transportation? Will gloves be changed for every visitor? Are we still going to have to put our wallets, keys, purses, etc. in the dirty little trays as we go through the scanner?

How many people will be allowed on a bus?

WDW has canceled all reservations thru 5/23. While DVC is a separate company, you know that they take their walking instructions from WDW management. So the earliest DVC will open is 5/24 and that is only if WDW management feels it is safe.

Probably, No and probably less than they used to.

Sooo now what? No one has an answer for where June reservations stand. Any thoughts?
