Was anyone else upset about...

The ending montage of The Great Movie Ride? I'm not a mother, but I took DSis12 with me on my first trip to Disney, and we loved TGMR. However, we were absolutely shocked that Freddy Krueger was included in the big movie montage at the ending. If there's one thing that we both are afraid of, it's him (DSis because, well, she's only 12. And she's been afraid ever since she accidentally stumbled across one of the movies on TV when she was 6. For me, it's a psychological thing based on something that happened as a child).

We'd thought that at Disney, we would be pretty safe from seeing him. I realize that MGM is a little more geared toward older kids and adults, but that was still very unexpected. As we were two young women away from home and staying alone in a hotel room, it got us a bit worked up. We ended up having to go home two nights early (not because of seeing Freddy, DSis was homesick. But that sure didn't help).

Anyone else upset about it?

It doesn't bother me to see Freddie Krueger, and I don't think my kids even noticed. That film montage goes pretty quick.

Disney-MGM Studios park is all about the wonderful world of movies, so it makes sense that just about every legitimate genre is represented there. To leave any out would make the park less than it is.

Interesting - the Freddie scene doesn't show anything graphic, does it? I seem to remember him holding up his fingers, but it's a quick shot, less than five seconds, isn't it? I would have thought someone that timid would have been far more bothered by the extended Alien scene in the ride.

It's not that the Freddy scene showed anything graphic...we don't like the sight of him at all. The alien scene didn't bother me although DSis didn't love it. I agree that MGM should should all genres of movies, but what about classic horror, such as the original Dracula, the mummy, the wolfman, the invisible man...

There's a tribute to classic horror in the ride itself. The scene following the driver switch at the temple features mummies and the driver does a little spiel beginning with "I see dead people", remember?

Anyway, sorry he creeped you out!!!

I must say, I'm rather surprised at a 12yr old and a young adult (you didn't say your age, but I'm assuming you're a few years older than her) being all that upset by a picture of an actor in costume. Yeah, he's not nice (what horror character is?!), but surely you can get past that?

I have been on that ride zillions of times and never even noticed him. I do not care for him, not for any particular reason, just don't like stuff like that BUT as someone said earlier in the posts, all people are scared or dislike different things as in the Wicked Witch, it would be really hard to make sure there was nothing that scared anyone. Sorry your trip was ended earlier and that upset you though. I know different things could upset me too!

Good point...I'm not sure if they do own the rights. I'm an adult, by the way - 22 years old. I did mention in my first post that there was a reason I'm afraid of him that I've never been able to get past. I'm not sure why the sight of him scares DSis so much. I think it's just that when we see him we become a little paranoid - we know he isn't real, but we still look over our shoulder. I'm sure it doesn't make much sense to you guys...but horror movies stir up anxiety in the two of us. Which I don't get cause DM loves them

Our kids have never really paid attention to all that so it doesn't bother us. I figure they are trying to hit the broad range of movies for everyone so there will probably be something that eveyone finds offensive. Our kids are most upset by all the shooting that goes on during the ride.

It's only for a couple of seconds. I don't like Freddy, but I figure they are playing to everyone and not just me. My daughter didn't like Alien, but just shut her eyes each time we went thru.

That montage didn't bother either of my kids (7 and 10), but then again they have never even caught a glimpse of those movies so they didn't have any idea who he was.

I don't even think I noticed he was in it. The movie at the end is my favorite thing about the ride.
