Warriors Carving out Miles in October

Happy Sunday Warriors!!

Real quick check-in............

Ran the ToT yesterday. Late. The weather was actually reasonably good. Not too warm, kinda' humid with an occasional breeze. It was well organized & (if I remember correctly) MUCH more crowded than last year, most likely due to the addition of the 5K.

I actually looked for some Wisher's this time around, but batted a big 0.0000. Ah well, there's always the Marathon...........

Anyway, my run went pretty well. I'm the kind of guy that, no matter how I do, am always disappointed in my results. I like to second guess myself on how much gas I had left in the tank at the finish, and how more I could have spent on the course.

My time was 1:14:42 for the 13K. 668 out of about 3247 overall. 39th in my division (which was only 110, so don't get too excited............... ). It was 3:41 faster than last year, so maybe I'm getting faster as I get older.........

It's too bad this race is going away (IMHO). Except for about 1/2 mile in the dirt & gravel, I think the course is really well laid out, & it's a nice "non-standard" distance that is a good gauge of my (lack of) fitness.

We'll have to see about the new 1/2M next fall. HOPEFULLY it will be a relatively early start. I can't even imagine running a 1/2 that starts this late. If it does, I'm out.

Ok, well. Maybe not THAT quick of a check in...............................;););)

I got in 18 miles. Started early, then crossed paths with the 30K racers. I was at mile 11, they were at 14.

I spotted a friend, and paced her 4 miles to the finish line. Cheered in some friends, then continued on for my last 3 miles. It was HOT that last section through Waikiki.

Strange weather in the afternoon. Due to daytime heating, convection occured and brought flooding rains in certain areas on Oahu. It was beautiful out one minute, and storming the next.:confused3

Today I put in 9.35 miles using a "run 7/ walk 1" plan. Nice easy pace. I'd like to keep the pace I did today for a full, but it was way too slow for my 1/2 M goal.

It's time to start stretching the distances just to get my girlie feet (no offense intended ;) ) used to the pounding of the longer distances.

Hopefully I'll be doing the Outback Classic 1/2 M in Jacksonville on Thanksgiving morning. This one is in lieu of the Space Coast (which I wanted to do, but time/distance/$$$$ is not allowing). It's cheap ($35) with a medal & is only about a 45 minute drive away. I'll miss the parades on TV, but not the football.

Jeff, sorry about the cuts in hours at work for you and DW. Happy though that you are making the best of it spending more time with your family.

Jim, hope you can get your feet used to the added miles in enough time to do your event. Girlie feet huh? What color are your toenails? Inquiring minds want to know!

I am THRILLED to report I got 12.48 miles in yesterday and for the first time in ever I managed very close to a 14 min mile for the 12 miles. My overall pace was 14:14 for 12.48 miles. It was nirvana! At 12 miles I stopped working and walked it all back to my stretching place. I amazed me! It was perfect weather for me.

Toenails?? Who has toenails ??

And oh, BTW, I notice you live in OOOHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I am going to be in Dayton on the 2nd weekend in April & have found a "small" (so they say) 1/2 & M in Xenia on the morning of April whatever-the-heck that Saturday is. It's called the ORRRC Marathon & starts/ends at the YMCA in Xenia. Ever heard of it? Feedback? Good/Bad/Indifferent? The nice thing I note is that it is only $20 early registration & has a finisher's medal at the end. Being the "Bling Slut" that I am, I'm kinda' figuring "what the heck"......................

28 1/2 miles on the bike today. VERY windy with lots of crosswinds. It's a bit weird to have to pedal leaning to one side or the other to keep from getting blown over. I was PLANNING to go run this afternoon, but ended up NAPPING instead.

Bummer.

ETA: My DW decided to get caught up on her Tivo'ed TV this evening, so I kinda' forced myself to put in an easy 3.1 this evening. In the dark. One can only watch so much "Ghost Whisperer".

Can't help you with this one. I'm thinking if it's got bling, it's good! You get to check off another state and hang up the bling! If I do find out anytihng about it I'll let you know.

So far it's just be a Kirby Dog walking kind of day. I know I'll put in something else before bed time.

Hey warriors-

So pleased to see you're all doing well and getting priorities in place- Jim napping is way up there on my list!

Just had one of those really good days so thought i'd post! First off I've passed my first Masters essay (whoop) next one due in 1 1/2 weeks (phew!), had an awesome lecture on mental health and cardio health, then donated blood and came home to a lovely boyfriend cuddle! :) About to start studying again. A shame that running's not going quite so well, but i'm not thinking of that right now.

Tracy you'll be in my house buying thoughts for the next 3 months then

Kate: Thanks for the good thoughts. Hoping the cash offer backs out at some point as they have a set date that they need to be in a place and that is December 15th. The listing agent is not thinking the bank will close by then. Take care of those shin splints.

I have a WONDERFUL 4 miles last night at the park.
I did it with an average pace of 12:55. I am now doing intervals of jogging 1.5 minutes and racewalking 5 minutes. Seems to be working pretty well so far.

SOOOOOOO everyone...
How is everyone's training coming along?
Where are you at in your training miles wise?
Are you having any pains or problems?
What are you dressing up as for Halloween?

Take care my WONDERFUL WARRIORS!!

Hey Warriors!

So so sorry I've been so absent. Training is back on track finally and I have been at a minimum recording my miles and minutes on the spreadsheet. I just registered for a halloween 5k (free beer, dri fit shirt and finishers beer mug), and a half marathon in a few weeks (Nov 22).

Starting to feel a little anxious about the Mickey, but also super excited!!

Forgot about my aches and pains. Shin splints, IT band and PF have forced me to add some bike and elliptical miles to my longer miles days, but I am getting it done.

Kate, glad that things are going well with the Masters quest. Sorry about the not so good running.

Tracy, good for you finding a R/W combo that works for you.

How is everyone's training coming along?
I'm plodding along and making it happen. I think I should be further along than I am, but can't seem to make that any better.
Where are you at in your training miles wise?
I just did my 12 miler this past weekend on top of the weekend previous doing the Half marathon. Following the schedule for the LRs pretty closely. This weekend is a step back calling for a 6 miler. I can't see doing "just" that, but I think I'll stick to the plan.
Are you having any pains or problems?
Usual. I will preface with the fact that orthopedic doc has said it is ok to keep at it without causing any further damage to me: Knee slightly torn, but not enough to stop me. Have degenerative disks in back. Sometimes this causes radiating pain and sometimes it's ok. Hips are always a bit of a problem too. Thankfully that's it. Have had Achilles tendon and IT probs a couple times back, but this time around I'm doing my best to keep those at bay. Going easy seems to help and I am noticing that my pace seems to be picking up as I'm motivating.
What are you dressing up as for Halloween?
Ugh, don't want to go there. We are going to local winery with friends. (I don't really drink wine) I think I may recycle past costume for comfort and ease. Either Mickey Mouse Club t-shirt/ears or easy-cheesy pirate thing. I'm not at all creative.
What about you Tracy?

Hi Warriors!

Just got back from 12 days at Disney early Monday morning!! We had a good time and even got some runs in. I however have learned a very important lesson about running - watch where you are running!!!! We stayed at Saratoga Springs and I thought how cool would it be to run by the water with Downtown Disney on the horizon. Well apparently the sidewalk was a little uneven and I fell hard on my knee. Water and ipod flew across the street! Next time I will pay attention - we ran on the tm the rest of the time.

I was so jealous to see everyone with their TofT shirts on Sunday! I really wanted to run that race. Another lesson learned - sign up early for races at Disney!

Well I am off to work for the next 4 nights and then I am going to dayshift:banana:. It should make life easier.

Is anyone doing the country music 1/2 in April in Nashville? Depending on how the 1/2 goes in Jan we might do that one as well!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Jennifer

Happy Halloween Warriors.

Checking in with two of my regular 8 1/4 miles in the heat. Tradewinds have been absent for over a week, and VOG has settled in from the Big Island. Nasty stuff to breath. Slight sore throat for the last week or so, all due to the sulfuric dioxide from the Kilauea volcano on the big island.

I also got in some swim time in the ocean, in preparation for my Halloween triathlon tomorrow. Short one for fun. No costume for me, too much wind resistance with the mouse ears.

Another furlough Friday today for us. Bike ride with the keiki, and also pick up my race packet.

Aloha all.

And a quick update for me. Life has pretty much taken over, this month, and it's only going to get worse in November and December. Oh well, I think that's the normal order of things.

I finally broke 100 miles (all running!) for the month in October! I've taken a couple days off to deal with a very tight calf muscle that I could see developing into a problem, but I'm signed up for a 10K tomorrow, and then I have 15 miles on the schedule for Sunday. I love that I'm now at the point where all of my long runs are the longest I've ever run, again! It's a very scary and exciting feeling!

Oh! And new winter running clothing from SkirtSports came yesterday! I am IN LOVE with my new running tights with a skirt over top of them; I kind of wish I could wear them everywhere, they're so comfy. :rotfl: I can't wait to wear them on my long run on Sunday! I did realize though, that I now comb through the thrift stores for bargains for my real clothing, but I think nothing of dropping $100 on running gear. I think I have weird priorities. Or excellent priorities. One or the other. :rotfl2:

Hope everyone has a great Halloween tomorrow!

4 3/4 miles worth of 800 meter intervals yesterday :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2: + 8 miles (using run 8/walk 1) today in 80 minutes.

I just dropped a registration in the mail today for the Outback Classic 1/2M in Jacksonville on T'giving Day.

I have found 1 way to save 5 - 8% on race fees is to register by mail. I find it curious that it will cost an extra $3 - $5 to register on line, where it is all computerized & not touched by human hands, but to put a registration in "snail mail", where an envelope has to opened & processed by a person & a check driven to and deposited by a bank (again, by a human) hes no extras & costs LESS.

Ahhhhhh, the miracles of technology !!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Sara, I am laughing at your purchase remark. Oh ye are a runner! LOL! :lmao:

Jennifer, sorry about that wipe out you had. Hope you are feeling ok. I did CMM this April. It was a fun, unusually hot, somewhat hilly course. I'm not doing it again because I'm trying to check off other states in my half marathon quest. I would recommend it to anyone though. Well organized.

Jeff, glad you had time with your young ones. Good luck in your event this weekend. You are a machine!

Jim, yes, it is curious logic that which saves us time is more costly? Go figure.

I got in 6+ miles in warmer than usual weather. Did ok.

Good Hallow's Eve everyone.

Had a 5k this morning and PR'd my 5K time, down now to 35min 57sec. Did about a minute or so faster than my last 5K last month.

How is everyone doing?? How is your training coming along??

I am doing well and have 4 weeks until my Half Marathon.

Take care everyone and don't forget to turn in those miles and minutes for the month of October....

Anyone have suggestiong for the Warriors thread for November??
-maybe something to do with Thanksgiving, turkeys, or something.....post and let me know your thoughts...

-Racey Tracy

400 meter open ocean swim 9 minute (estimate). 2 minute transition. 7 mile bike ride 28 minutes. 1 minute transition, 2.8 mile run, 18 minutes. Total time 58.50, for a 9th place overall finish.

Great conditions, great shirt, and great time. Now for the funniest part. 16 people competed. I'll take the top 10 finish any day!!! LOL.

Hi Everyone!

WOW! I am impressed with everyone's numbers and times. I feel like such a slacker!

I hope everyone had a great Halloween and didn't eat too much candy. I went for 14 mile run in the morning and then stayed home and handed out candy. I was surprised how many kids were out.

Hopefully my training will take a turn for the better. I'll either have to sign up for more runs or find other ways to motivate myself to get out and run.

Have a great day everyone!:)
