Warning tiffins

ah I love these threads where you have the "gluttons" on one side and the "americans are too fat and eat too much" on the other side.

Remember, this is a Disney board which means it's about people's vacation behavior.... a vacation in which most americans with sedentary white collar jobs that can afford the high prices at disney are getting a whole lot more exercise than they normally do... but also a time when they might indulge and may not be reflecting every day life. Also remember that what you weigh is not always related to how much you eat... sometimes the people who eat the most are the healthiest, sometimes they are skinny and not necessarily healthy and people can be very overweight without being gluttons all the time. We are all different and the OP posted about their experience, with their opinion and supporting photographic evidence to help others who might run into the same thing. If you think it is a fine portion, keep going to Tiffins. If you think the portions are too small, go somewhere else where the portions are larger or it is AYCTE. The information is great for people who are planning their trip, which is the point of this board.

If you think this is an appropriate place to be on your high horse about how little you eat and how people who don't eat the way you do have something wrong with them, you should really find a different hobby.

I agree with this 100%, but pictures can be deceiving. Disney should post the calorie information on its menus to help people know what they're getting.

Yeeeessssssss at this post! My 180 day is this Tuesday and Im taking in all the advise and tips on these boards. We are a family of five who all actively exercise, my kiddos play multiple sports, we watch what we eat etc...but when vacation comes we eat. We dont just eat we eat good and we eat lots of what we don't eat on a normal daily basis. We upgraded to the deluxe dining for our December trip with no shame. I totally appreciated this original post and the info as Tiffins would not be our cup of tea, so thankful we didn't waste two credits there. For those who take pride in staying strict to their perfectly "normal" portions at every meal of their life, congrats and good for you. As for me this December, Ill be the southern momma you see in Magic Kingdom with a Dole Whip in one hand and a funnel cake in the other. And then spending double time in the gym the week after!

So, it's either one or the other? No in between?? I really enjoy our meals at Disney and look forward to them, like them to have sufficient portions, so does that make me a glutton?? I don't drink my calories in any form, so I do enjoy eating a nice size portion at my mealtimes. Neither dh or I are overweight, but we do enjoy our food. :) Like the pp, we enjoy vacations and that is our time to forget calories, and indulge in any food that suits our fancy! It is definitely a 'break' from our everyday 'reality' in more ways than one.

I'm not sure why it has to be one or the other myself

We enjoy plenty of indulgent meals and treats at Disney. Where better to do so. There are some great indulgent meals to be found. Most of us, even those, like me, that can be a big eater, have to take a meal off here and there.

I don't have any problems with a word of note that Tiffins is a location where you don't find either. I do have a tad problem to warn that their portions are too tiny. Baring something out of the ordinary they are not. To categorize their menu as inadequate to fill you up is unfair. That is the only issue I took with warning. You probably won't have left offers but you'll get full. And if you get a portion like OP got, send it back.

Wholeheartedly agree! Based on other photos posted on the thread, even one of the exact same entrée - this appears to be a one-off situation and not the norm. In March, my entrée was more than adequate.

People keep stating for the price its too tiny. Sometimes, you're paying for higher quality and not more quantity. Signatures would fall into that category IMO. The other person who had the same entrée mentioned they had what appeared to be an entire breast of chicken. I think it was either an off night, or bad camera angle.

I hope anyone, in general, would never choose to eat at, or not eat at, any Disney restaurant based solely on one review. People look through things with different lenses and have different perceptions. If I never ate at any place that got a bad review on the DIS - well, I'd have nowhere left to eat!

I don't think there has to be any categorizations either or. What fills one doesn't fill another for any number of a zillion reasons. I'm small/frequent eater. Others are large/less frequent. Some are using more energy/some less. I think saying "yep, that'd be fine for me" is as reasonable as saying it'd be a disappointing portion size for another. Neither position is "right." I'm a pretty slight person, but I want to eat a Disney croissant or have a Dole Whip/Rice Cream and several adult beverages over the course of the day so eating huge meals would make me way too full. I don't think saying "that's good for me" or "I could share that meal" OR "I'd need 2 of those" or "I like to eat second breakfast" are any case wrong. Its just what you want to do on vacation. I don't think anyone should be upset by others preferences. Mine are my way, others are others. Its SO very subjective. I just ask ya'll leave some limoncello at Italy for me:)

Yeah, I agree with the quantity vs quality thing.

I can eat one of the larger Disney meals if I haven't eaten all day. But I can't only eat one meal a day, so I wish Disney did lighter portions on their bigger stuff. I end up eating specifically at the more expensive places because of the huge servings elsewhere.

I think the dish looks great. And even if it was small and I was hungry, I wouldn't have a problem with ordering an appetizer or dessert- that's not something I get to do often because of the American oversized meals.

Lol. We posted at the same time on the same thing! Too funny. I agree, I like/need to eat frequently.

And you bring up a great point - I like to get 2 apps for my meal, one with the app and one for the entree and maybe dessert (not usually) because it allows me to have different things! I have no issue with getting an entree either if I have someone with a bigger app to finish it for me. Again, circumstances play a HUGE role.

had tiffins for lunch today. Great food but you get very little to eat. When we got done here we went straight to the quick service restaurant in pandora and ate. I know some fancy restaurants you get very small portions but this was ridiculously small. I had the chicken. Wife had the vegetarian meal. Vegetarian meal looked like you got a little bit more to eat.

Thank you for this post. Other people have read this. We are debating whether we should eat there.

Interesting thread. We do Deluxe Dining Plan. I like fish and veggies. Smaller portions are fine for me. I am short and not as active as I would like. We do lots of signatures and like to try new and different things. We are trying Tiffins. I am excited. Portion size is no issue. I worry about too big portions most of the time.

I'm petite and that looks like an appetizer. They didn't put it on a smaller dish because it would look exactly like what it was: a starter.

Thanks for the warning.

You've got me there. :) Guess I am not up to date on proper British for light meals.
Just for information, not because anyone should know this, but, "tiffin" as a light meal or a container for lunch is originally Indian English.

Ahh, it's all coming back to me. When you get to be 61 some memories take longer to dig up. :)
