We were on a cruise a few months back and I forgot to share this.

On board there was a little girl in a pale pink Disney princess swimsuit. Well when she got wet in the pool the suit became pretty much became see through. The parents didn't seem to care but I would have had a fit if it were my kid with all those drunk adults surrounding the pool. Thought I'd give a heads up if anyone else purchased one of these for a vacation. You may want to try it in the shower before packing it for vacation and finding out at the last minute that it's a problem.

not a disney suit, but this happened to us once. We were in Universal, and one day we noticed dd's suit was see through. It definitely had not started out that way (it was a new suit too). We assumed all the chlorine in the hotel pools made it that way. I had to buy dd a new suit right away. We actually keep our eyes out for that now whenever we vacation.

Really who cares! If she were truly a little girl what difference does it make. Now if she were 11 I'd be a bit more concerned but if she were a little girl again I say what is the big deal. She is a little kid. She doesn't have anything a little boy doesn't have at that age,and looks the same, unless you mean below the waist and then he has more.

Contrary to 24 hour news channels and the abundance of talk shows pedophiles aren't lurking everywhere.

exactly!!!! They are little kids. I probably wouldn't have her wear it agian, but it is certianly not something to have a fit over.

Thank you. I like this board, but sometimes the paranoia bothers me. I often bring very old bathing suits on vacation with the intention of throwing them out when packing up to go home. That means sometimes they are stretched out and have seen better days. I don't really think anyone cares.

BTW-I also recently went on a Disney cruise and didn't notice many drunk adults around the kids pool. I saw parents watching their kids in the pool.

My dd's have had some Disney suits and they tend to become see-through after being worn many times. Not sure if they have changed anything but these were bought a couple of years ago and they aren't lined at all. The lighter colored suits tend to have this problem more than the darker ones, in my experience, and mainly in the back.

I personally don't care to have my dd's wear see through swimming suits. I feel that the suits are meant to cover up, but that's my opinion.

The insensitivity of this just rubs me the wrong way. So very much. I have a personal perspective on it - my boss had her 9 year old son kidnapped, sexually assulted, video taped, tortured and murdered. Then for the trial they used the video tapes as evidence and played back every thing he did to him to a room full of strangers. And after seeing all that she then had to deal with the media and picketers outside her home saying that the murder shouldn't get the death penalty. Blaming her for everything.
Pedophiles may not be lurking 'everywhere' - but all it takes is one to destroy a kid and a family. I don't need the news or talk shows to know that.

I had just wanted to make this post to give a heads up about a Disney swimsuit to any family who wouldn't want their kid exposed - so they wouldn't be stuck in a situation where they couldn't easily get a replacement suit.

Thanks for the post, OP. I would not want my girls (or boy) in a see-through bathing suit, no matter what age.

Thank you OP it had not even occured to me and I would not want my DD's in any see-thru swimsuit I will definetly be testing my 2 princesses swimsuites:thumbsup2

I agree with the insensitivity of some of the comments. I don't think it's paranoia that makes parents like that; I think it is simply watching out for your child and making sure there is nothing that would give ANYONE cause to do harm to him/her.
I am so sorry for your boss's loss. There is no way that I could even imagine something like that happening to my son.
It is experiences such as that one that may have happened to us or others around us that make us more aware as parents that there are bad people who prey on little children and the less attracted to them they are, all the better.
Please be considerate of other parents' preferences and opinions when it comes to their own child's protection.
Melancholywings - I know you were only posting this for our information. Thank you!

Thank you for the heads up. Definitely don't want my little ones exposing anyone! And you never know who is a pedophile or molester (just found out 2 days ago I know a real one, and he is only 14---can't imagine how sick to my stomach I am). You can never be too careful with your children!!

Appreciate this! Great heads up to check for light colored bathing suits. So sad about your boss's son. :(

Sure, there are not pedophiles lurking everywhere, but all it takes is ONE! Why take the risk of making your daughter stand out to them? I wouldn't.

Did he end up getting the death penalty? That's hard for me to read and I need some closure!

I would be pretty upset if I bought a brand new swimsuit for vacation and then realized that it was see-through. First of all, it's a waste of $20, and then I wouldn't want my daughter to be nearly naked in the vacation pictures. She'd look back at it and ask how I let that happen.

Thank you for the heads up OP. It blows me away that many do not realize the dangers and even though pedophiles aren't "everywhere", you never know who is a pedophile. Heck, we had a city police officer who was convicted of exposing himself to children as well as having child porn on his computer. My son went to school with his daughter. I had a friend from high school who is now a registered sex offender for life as well as her husband for sex crimes against children. Thankfully their little son told the school bus driver and help was gotten for the kids abused as well as these people's own children. There are not always big signs on who is a pedophile nor is there anything stating that only adults are pedophiles. Believe it or not there are many youth that have been adjudicated as sexual offenders against other children and while some cases are idiotic (case of young man charged as a sex offender for having a sexual relationship with his girlfriend because she was under 16) there are many that are valid.

Very scary and you just never know.

There is no way you can know, unless something happens. It could be anyone, anywhere at any time. That is why I have the attitdue thay I will do my best to portect DD from every danger I can, but I cannot spend my life looking over my shoulder and wondering who might be "looking at her". There is simply NO WAY to know. If I get a wierd vibe from someone, or they do something fishy, I react to that, but something like the swimsuit would not freak me out. I cannot spend my life jumping at shadows. I can arm my DD with the knowledge that there are bad people in the world, and when in doubt, scream bloody murder. I can watch where she goes and who she is with, and take her out of any situation I question.
