Warning laughter during Despicable Me might get you in trouble !

Just got home from seeing Despicable Me 3D with DS 7. It was hilarious & we have been all looking forward to it for a while. Even downloaded the app from Best Buy to translate the Minions during the end credits. (OT but that was so cute at the end) Anyway, we went to a matinee, movie theater was 2/3 full. Full of lots of kids & families. We sat down & where surrounded by other families with kids. In front was a couple in their early 40's, no kids.

DS is well behaved in public, specially in movies. Well as the movie gets started DS as well as all the other kids & most grown ups were laughing. DS didn't stand up, kick the seats, jump up & down, he wasjust laughing. Sometimes a chuckle, sometimes just plain old laughter but not screaming

5 minutes later an usher came up to me & whispered that the lady in front was complaining that DS was laughing too much. I was a little embarrased & told the usher I'd ask him to lower his laugh but I couldn't tell him not to laugh

I just told DS to lower his laugh. Mind you there were kids clapping, dancing in their seats in some scenes & laughing way louder than DS & even saying the lines out loud, it is a kid's movie

You want me to tell a child not to laugh in a kid's movie" That was the last of the complaints.

The movie was great but careful if you laugh too much !

You would think people like that would know to stay home. We saw it last night and thought it was hilarious. I can't imagine asking people to stop laughing at a comedy movie.

You want me to tell a child not to laugh in a kid's movie" That was the last of the complaints.

LOVE it!!! I saw Blazing Saddles many, many (many, many...) years ago with a large group of friends. Before the movie started, one man said, "Now, nobody laugh. Last time I saw this movie, I couldn't hear a word because everybody was laughing so much!". Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight

I'll tell you, I'm an adult who goes to matinees of animated films, and I know going in that there are going to be kids (and adults) laughing and reacting to the movie, and that can be part of the fun. I can't imagine complaining about normal audience reactions. Makes you wonder what sort of movie that lady thought this was going to be.

By the way, I went to see Despicable Me today and really enjoyed it. Gru and the Girls were great, the Minions were funny (I was a little iffy about them from all the over-exposure, but they worked), and I liked the "cartoony" style. We had a good audience and there was a lot of laughter and even some applause at the end. I would definitely recommend this as just a fun, sweet, entertaining movie.

I do not have children and when I am in a movie theater, especially when I am seeing a children's movie, I think it is absolutely delightful when kids start to laugh. There is something about a child's laughter that just makes me want to laugh. When they giggle to the point of near hysterics I can't help but smile!
Boy were those people some fuddy duddies!!

When Alice in Wonderland was in the theaters, I took my DD5 to see it. We made a Saturday night of it...I took her out for pizza (her favorite food), and I made sure that she understood that there might be adults in there to see the movie since it was 7pm....and made sure she knew how to behave.

Little did I know that everyone in town drops off their teenagers at the movie theaters Friday and Saturday evenings. They were up and moving about...talking very loudly throughout the movie. I yelled at them that some people actually came to WATCH the movie, and one kid got up..."Oh, excuse me..."... very sarcastic, and walked out for a couple of minutes. There are only two things I can be grateful for... (1) they weren't throwing things at us and (2) the manager gave us tickets when we walked out and complained so we could come back and see it. For the local theater...see it during a matinee, or don't see it at all.

Kids laughing at funny parts in the movie would have been a blessing comparatively. (And really...who were these people that they weren't too busy laughing at the funny parts to even care that OP's son was laughing?)

If a movie is geared towards children and it is intended to be funny, kids will laugh as will the adults. There is nothing wrong with laughing at all. Sometimes I will laugh at some of the other people laughing.

We just was eclipse the other night. A family came child about 3 a baby around 4months. child running in and out, and baby crying. The owner came and talked to them.

Some movies you will laugh as will everyone else.

We saw Eclipse last night and were very surprised at how many people brought there under the age of 5 kids to the movie. A baby was taken out a couple of times for crying!!! It was crazy!! I guess I should at least be thankful they took the baby out!!! The worst though was hearing a little girl about 4 tell her mommy when the movie was over "that was scary" - I felt like responding "you think?!?!"

Absolutely agree -- anyone laughing makes me smile, but kids laughing is an absolute day-brightener.

Actually, this reminds me -- wasn't there an issue at Universal last year (?) where a couple got mad at a little girl screaming during a thrill ride? Now I'm going to have to go find that...

Laughter is totlly acceptable. It's a kid's cartoon for heaven's sake!

MY beef is people who treat the theatre like their livingroom...talking, texting, kicking my seat, bringing infants who scream all throughout, being obnoxious, narrating the film...

I've been thinking... it's a (primarily) kid-focused movie, right? And it's a comedy?

So, if kids are going, and laughing... doesn't that mean it's a SUCCESS?????? A HIT??? That it's entertaining, and that the writers, producers, actors, etc., acheived their goal and created an entertaining movie that's going to, among other things, make money and continue to draw audiences?

Maybe snowflake is a movie reviewer and she'll have to write, "I can't tell you all anything about this movie. I couldn't hear the dialogue at all; the many children in the theater were laughing too hard and too loud through the whole show!"

There was one part (when Will Ferrell is getting drained by a giant mosquito-thing) that had ds laughing so hard. He would stop, think about, and start laughing again. He had me laughing at his laughing! I was crying!

This has nothing to do with the OP..but it got me thinking about a Disney cruise I was on a couple of years ago. We got to know our dinner mates. A single mom, her dad and her 9yo DD. My Dd was also 9 and they hit it off. My DH and I really enjoyed their company at dinner. The cruise was a double dip at CC. The 1st day we ran into them getting off the ship, so we got our chairs together and the kids had a blast with each other, while us adults conversed. The second day, same thing, we ran into them on the gangplank. So, again...we hung out.

My kids wanted to go back on the ship for the 3pm movie College Road Trip. Her DD wanted to go to, but she was not ready to leave the beach. (this was around 2PM). The DD was really pressuring her mom, so I offered to let her join us, and she could meet up with us after the movie. She was fine with that. Well, I could not believe how funny the movie was. I was laughing out loud, and at times, I think I was the only one laughing. I was starting to feel self-conscience. All of a sudden, during one of Donny Osmand's scenes, I hear this cackling behind me! Sounded like me, but I knew it wasn't because I was already laughing. Imagine my joy to discover it was my new-found friend! So for the rest of the movie the two of us were cackling idiots. It was the best time. The kids had no idea why we found Donny Osmond so funny, but he was just a riot in that movie. As for the other fuddy-duds who were not laughing..oh well. I just knew I really enjoy my new friend because she had the same sense of humor I did! It was wonderful!!!

People laughing during a funny movie is expected. If they aren't laughing during a funny movie, then that's a bad thing. It means the movie isn't very good, right?

I'll take a laughing kid during a movie over a crying, seat kicker any day!
