Warning: I was NOT allowed to upgrade MYW tickets with dining plan!

That's not really a disagreement. You stated what you felt "should" be and I stated what actually "is".

I just found this thread today, and I was really worried since this is exactly what we had planned on doing. Especially after being told when booking our package that this wouldn't be a problem. So, I contacted CRO and spoke with a wonderfully helpful man. We spent probably 45 minutes on the phone while he contacted Guest Relations and Ticket Relations to find out the correct information. Finally he came back to me, and told me that the woman in ticket relations that he had spoken with told him that this was not a problem whatsoever. That as long as the tickets weren't "special" (like comped, or discounted) that you could upgrade ANY MYW tickets to Annual Passes. She said that if we run into any problem while at WDW Guest Relations that we need to ask to speak to a manager and that if that doesn't work we are to advise the manager that they need to contact Ticket Relations. So for those of you that are going, and are planning on upgrading to Annual passes please keep that in mind.

We just got back last week after our free dining trip. Our first night there we went to Downtown Disney and renewed our seasonal passes. The cost of the one day ticket we purchased with the package was taken off of our renewal price. We had absolutely no problem doing this. (This is the second time we have done it.)

Thats good to know. I have a one day base ticket from my vacation in August that I did not use (i already had an 8 day ticket but wanted the free dining so bought oe pay passes to booke the package). I intend to trade this one day up to an Annual Pass in December.

Where do you go to at Downtown Disney for park pass services? Thanks.

There is a guest services next to the shop that sells sporting goods that's next to Summer Sands. Sorry, I don't know the name of it. I always go there instead of a park, it's usually not crowded.

Hi, this is the OP, and I finally got a chance to replay the message from "Disney Executive Office" that was left on my answering machine. The person who called me confirmed that you cannot upgrade a pass that is part of the dining package until your package is over. He did mention the free dining promotion, so maybe it only applies to free dining??? His message did say that you could use the ticket to go to a park, and then upgrade once the package was over, but I'm not so sure I'd trust that information! And I don't know how long you have after using the ticket to apply it to another type of ticket.

His message seems very contradictory to what people are actually experiencing. I have no idea why some people can change their tickets no questions asked and others, like me, get the run-around. All I know is that two different CMs at Epcot gave me the same story, as well as the person who called in regards to my complaint.

So, really, I have no idea what the "policy" really is, or if there even IS a set policy. I'm still very disheartened by what happened, and I don't know when I will be up for another Disney vacation. I had big plans for using the annual passes, too, so it really is Disney's loss. Whoever thought up the "can't upgrade until your package is over" idea didn't really completely think it through.

Really, what is the difference if I had bought 3 day MYW tickets to get through every day of the trip, and then used those to upgrade to an annual pass? I'm still only giving them, in total, the cost of the annual pass! If they let me upgrade my one day ticket, they are getting the same exact amount of money in the end! And they would have a happy customer, instead of one like me!!!

I hope everyone else is able to upgrade without a hitch. I would suggest maybe trying some park other than Epcot!

My guess is that what you were told is the (new?) policy, but sometimes folks (will still?) experience pixie dust -- CMs bending the rules for them. Not worth relying on, but perhaps worth hoping for.

I had planned on keeping my hotel keys with MYW tickets on them for a future time to upgrade then, after package stay was over, but was told even though my name was on the card, if we lost them, they were gone forever, the system would not track it. So, I went to DTD guest relations on the west side to see about upgrading (slang, technically, applying credit) MYW tickets. I was able to do upgrade to FL 3 play tickets with names on them that they said could be tracked, they came off of my hotel keys onto paper tickets and it was in the middle of our stay. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get FL 3 play since those are discounted for FL residents, which I am but thought this type of ticket might have been excluded from upgrading. I'll likely ultimately upgrade to FL resident pass in a year or so but this was a way to retain name on pass in case it gets lost without paying full AP cost. No problems for me and I wasn't made to feel rules were bent or favors were done. Since most people are not having problems and one person is....... I'm wondering if poor CanBeGrumpy has been sprinkled with 'anti pixie dust'.

Just came back from a trip last week where we exchanged our 8-day passes for annual passes at EPCOT. I had hoped to do it elsewhere, since I had read of the problems there earlier, but that's where we happened to be at the end of the week.

I did it the last thing, as we were leaving the park. We initially asked at the ticket booth, and were told that if we had the dining plan, we needed to go to customer service. We did so, and they asked if we had used all our credits (we had) as their system would void them out changing to the AP. Consequently the transaction was completed with a minimum of hassle.

It seems to me that it's not so much a matter of policy, as of the system/CMs at EPCOT being unable to separate the dining credits from the tickets, as they didn't have any problem with principle of the exchange--just the mechanics of it. The solution seems to be to wait until the dining credits are gone, or just go somewhere besides EPCOT to do it.

I was able to use my one day base ticket from a year ago as credit towards my annual pass renewal this week (this was at Epcot, at the International Gateway).

How did you do this? I plan on doing this during our Jan 2007 trip. Did you just hand them your room key that had the one day ticket on it and ask them to apply the value to the renewal price of your AP?

I told her I had a one-day ticket (on my room key), she scanned it to make sure it was on there - and said it was no problem to use it towards my AP upgrade. My MIL did the same thing using it towards a new Seasonal Pass last year when I suggested it (I had called ticket services prior and was told it wasn't possible, but that it would be okay to give the ticket to someone else - which of course isn't what Disney suggests!)

I don't think it should be a problem - I mean, I paid for the ticket, and used the value of it towards my AP. Disney can do as they wish, but most of the time they will do it (I don't know if that is changing or not).

Thanks for the information. All we can do is ask in Jan and see what happens.

We were allowed to upgrade one day tickets to PAPs but couldnt do this until last day as they said it would knock the free dining plan off our cards. So we upgraded first to 10 day park hoppers, then PAPs on las day of free dining.

It is very possible that my MIL had to wait last year until the end of the stay to upgrade to a seasonal.

I didn't have any problem with an older ticket - it might very well just be while you are on the package.

I mananged to upgrade a MYW ticket to an AP renewal. but I was told if I lost my room key I would not be able to get a new one that had the meal credits on it. There were to of us, and the other ticket was not changed, that is sitting there ready to be used another time.
