I thought it was federal [FDA] law for 'fiber' to be listed in the 'total carbs'. Thus we take the total carbs less the fiber carbs for the net carbs. It seems that is not the case.

I had an EAS AdvantEdge chocolate canned shake (which was delish by the way). They list total carbs as 2 -- fiber as 2 - sugar less than one. Okay -- I thought -- WOW ZERO CARBS! After I was done I was reading the 'small print' on the can. At the bottom of the small print it reads - fiber grams are included in the calorie count but not included in the total carb count. So it appears that the 'total carb count' should read 4 with fiber being 2 and net being 2!

I wonder how many other places play this game!

That really stinks...I do not understand why they would do that. Especially since it would only hurt them.

The "low carb" products frequently do this to make it easier for us to see what the total carbs are. They figure they're making it easier for us to just glance at the can/package and see what the carbs are immediately.

But, it's actually making it more confusing for us!!

So, I guess when eating "real" food, we subtract the fiber from the carbs. But when eating "low carb" prepackaged food, they've already done it for us.

I don't use those shakes and I don't think I will start now, for sure.

I thought the low carb food makers would want to put impact carbs on the packaging, like Atkins and Carbolite do.

Guess I was wrong. I won't be buying this product, they just lost a customer.

Thanks for the heads up!

On the front of the can it DOES say 2g of Carbs in bold letters. But on the FDA label it reads total carbs 2 - Fiber 2 -- which led me to believe the net would have been zero (until I read the small print).
