I just got an email in my spam box (didn't open it) that has the heading: Employment: Payroll Assistant. I would recommend NOT OPENING THIS KIND OF EMAIL. It has an attachment added to it that may contain a virus and they may also have it as a phishing email as well.

DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT OPEN.

Um, had you applied for this or a similar job any time in the last few months, or a job at a company that would have a payroll assistant position available in combination with you having relevant experience?

I mean, warnings like this ARE great, helpful, and appreciated! I'd just hate to think you missed out on an actual job opportunity! No indication of the sender, huh? Or the sender wasn't familiar to you at all?

No I haven't. And I doubt any reputable company would send it from a Gmail or Hotmail account.

When I was laid off last June (and before making the decision to be a SAHM), I went to Craigs List to look for job postings. Most of the jobs posted (I'm going to say probably about 99%) had gmail accounts to reply to. Very few had actual company email addresses listed. It kind of raised a red flag to me regarding the gmail accounts and I never replied to any of the job postings b/c of that.

There are millions of spam emails sent every day. I always see someone posting a warning here. Of course there are notices from paypal, or Nigerian princes, or payroll offices. They are just a fact of life. Doesn't everyone know to just delete them?

One more warning never hurts as there's some people who don't heed the warnings until it's too late. Then they're on the local news telling their story of getting scammed. DON'T LET IT BE YOU!

A friend of mine posted this on my LJ as a response to this very same warning:

Yeah, I've been getting some of those too. I never open the attachment. I've also been getting a lot of "We have a job for you as a courier - All you need is to be honest, have a bank account and an internet connection and you can make big bucks".

Yeah right, and then you can drain my account when I give it to you... uh...huh. Check the address for fun...right, a HOTMAIL or g-mail account? Not even a company account? Riiight...where are you from, Nigeria?

Delete.

And he's been looking for a job for a year and a half.
