Warning: Do Not Say Dis!

This is a warning to people that like to meet other dis peopel in VMK: Do not say dis! do not even say "from that web site", they know whta you're talking about.

So, for all those people that see me in vmk and say," you're from dis, right?", DO NOT SAY IT! They are currently banning people for it.

That has always been a no no! To ask if you are on dis is asking for personal information. So as far as i know that is not really something new.

I have always had dis in my signature but my title is disneyfanlv and people call me dis so I am not sure on that. I just know that you can not be too personal. Like if you want to say check your pms on dis , i just always say look at the boards or check your messages. I am always very general and never specific.

I think the problem comes when you ask hey are you DIS?

I have both used the word "Dis" and had it said to me with no problems. I also have "Dis" in my signature. I changed my signature sometime back right after the New Year and had some problems using "acceptable words". But, have since changed it with no problems, I have both "Dis" and another Disney friendly site in my signature.

Wow. I don't think they'd do anything if we do that... except ban all of us.
Although, you are right. The only reason I think they dont allow saying you are from dis is because of the frapper map thing. Maybe not, but that shows pi (personal info) and there is the post your picture here post, and many more pi threads here. Staff will never understand us...

It's only a computer game. Its not like they are banning us from DIS. They are just trying to protect little kids. This game is meant for kids...so they probably wouldn't listen to our complaints.

And we all know who DISers in VMK are. We don't have to have it in our signature!

Dis isn't even a word. Why should it be in the VMK dictionary at all? If they want to stop peple from saying "dis" then they can very easily. You all know the VMK values. Act responsibly and no one is going to get banned.

OK, this was brought up on another thread. I am now officially confused (as usual.) I use the word "dis" all the time. Both to people who have it in their name (just easier to say) and when saying something like "Go to dis." This morning PurpleDuck was banned for two hours and could not figure out why. Could it have been because she mentioned "dis"?

Sorry, but I DISagree. I love VMK, enjoy DIS and I am an adult. On the other hand, two of my children love VMK, but are just kids. One of those kids posts on DIS all the time. He loves DIS almost as much as VMK because he feels connected to a whole group of people. None of his school-mates or friends play VMK, so DIS provides a community for him. HOWEVER, even though he thinks he is wiser than me , he is not an adult. I would never want someone connecting his VMK persona to his DIS identity and then attempting to exploit him.

Disney has restrictions in place for a good reason. And VMK is not an adult only site.

I will add to this discussion a situation on the CB where a stalker found his mark through the DIS. The police were brought in and now this poster must leave the DIS to protect herself and her family. I am not saying that the DIS is not a safe place, but if you reveal too much, you can be found. Therefore, VMK may have decided that saying you are DIS, or fan site or from magic site is just unsafe.

okay, I was discussing this to some degree with VMK_Runo a few nights ago. His explanation was that even mentioning another website on VMK can cause people to become curious and check them out. He doesn't want us talking about any other site, except Disney. Understandable. 100%. Let's face it, all kids are curious. If they see us talking about dis or the fan site, they will search it out. The other part of it simply the misinformation floating around the forums. All of them have posts that are totally false and misleading. This makes for a lot of questions to the staff on vmk. There are enough vmk related issues for them to deal with already, without having to quash rumors as well.

Right off the top, let me say I am sorry this post will appear so long because of the quotes, but I am speaking from my official position as co-chair of the DIS Kids Teleporter Network. I feel this post is important because there are a few of the kids from the network here that are confused and asking questions. (Also, as someone pointed out in this thread, I did receive a ban yesterday morning, so I can speak directly to this.)

Yes. Not a good idea to bring it up in conversation, or messages.

I do believe in one of my 'good morning' messages yesterday, I could have said something along the lines of "..that DIS post..". I do know I was trying to get someone to check, and that very well could be how I said it. Yes, I got a 2 hour ban. But since ALL my other messages said nothing other than the typical good morning kind of message, I have to agree, "don't do it".

No, leave it in. At least until someone hears otherwise "formally" from VMK. We suggested you kids have that in your signature for two reasons: A) to assist in saving you from being booted from DIS people's rooms (some DIS attempt to have their room open for DIS people, they will "boot" non-DIS). There were a few reports of our kids getting mistakenly booted, so this was the solution. B) to help avoid being in one of these situations where someone wants to find out if you are DIS and you could get banned trying to answer.

I too, say Hi Dis, as the "easy" way for all of my friends with it in their name. I have never had a problem with that. (My observation, after yesterday's ban, yet still using Hi Dis to friends yesterday, is that we are okay to use it in that fashion.)
