Warning! Do not download the latest version of shockwave!

I had this problem when I got back from CA, but I didn't think to post about it. I've been logging in from the direct log in site, too. And hit "cancel" with the pop up that tells me I need to download Shockwave.

So glad I ignore those things for updates most of the time:)

I sure hope you can get back Lucky, I can't imagine VMK without you :sad1:
:grouphug:

I downloaded the new version right after the pop-ups for a new one began, and yet the pop-ups were still on the login page. Yesterday I downloaded it again to hopefully get rid of them. I have had no problems other than the new version pop-ups being there still.

I figure I will just keep clicking the "X" on the warning box, until VMK closes, then will reinstall the newer shockwave again.

This is my thought I had to Recover both of my computers due to an attack that infected my computers. When I reloaded everything and shockwave was messed up. I had not determined it was a wide spread problem but figured for a month it was not worth fixing it at this time since it does not effect game play.

I dont think its a shockwave problem. I think VMK just has to update what the current version of shockwave is. Thats probably not going to happen tho because I am sure they are in "maintenance" mode. No more building :(

I think you are right, Aengus.:sad2:

I get that message whenever I go to log into VMK. Nothing else but that. Before that started I couldn't even get VMK to come up after logging in. It was just the black screen for a week. Now its the message about updating shockwave even though I don't need to. So glad to see it hasn't been just me and figured it has to be VMK since it only happens with them.

Guys, a lot of VMK players have been getting the message about downloading the latest version of shockwave when they try to log in. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM. Immediately hit CANCEL when it prompts you to download the program.

Adobe has a bug in it that will no longer allow you to play VMK (and various other games) because it is not compatible with the Windows system.

I may have ruined my chance to play VMK for the final month because I tried to download this stuff. Don't want this happening to anyone else.:sad1:

Lucky

Thanks For The Warning!:thumbsup2

Hey all, this same stuff happened to me right before I was banned. Do you think it had something to do with it?

I clicked to reload shockwave and loaded flash and some other stuff it recommended and then wham, I was banned.

I thought, after that, the warning came up because I was banned, but hearing that you all are having issues makes me wonder.

Here are some tips and tools to remove shockwave maybe they will help.

Uninstalling the Shockwave Player
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15895

In order to uninstall the Shockwave player simply use the file UNWISE.EXE located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10. Users can also use the Add/Remove programs located in the Windows control panel. The Macintosh installer contains both the installer and the uninstaller.

ALSO there is a uninstaller here from Adobe

Microsoft offers some help also

I've had this problem for the last few weeks. I uninstalled Shockwave, reinstalled it and even did a restore to see if that solved the problem. Nothing worked, so I just hit cancel and I get on fine. I also have the problem of not being able to click on the icon to read the newsletter. But, that's where having more than one computer in the house comes in handy. It's a tad annoying, but it's not a huge hassle.

I tried Dr zero. I went through all of the steps, but when I went to download the program again, i got a message saying that one or two files were missing?

This was at the end of the download. Anyway, i gave it a try and thank you for such detailed help. I did download an older version- 10. 14 or something like that. Should I have gone for the 11.0?

I went back to version 10 something to be safe lol and it get the message I need to upgrade but I just hit cancel like the others, learned my lesson about the bleeding edge of updates.

Has anyone been having other computer problems after downloading the new version?

I'm wondering if my new problems of the internet freezing on me may be part of it. :confused3

What windows version are you using ?

I downloaded the last version and I have no problems once I hit cancel before logging on VMK

I had the same thing for 5 days back around St. Pat's Day, and for 1 day last weekend. IDK what the problem was, but it just started loading just as fast as it stopped loading. I still get the download shockwave message and click cancel on Pal or Explorer. It loads ok now for me.

Last night was the 1st time I logged in since last Friday (or Saturday) and it it told me I had to update my version of Shockwave. Since I had read here that it wasn't a good idea, I clicked the Cancel box, but it then proceeded to the upload, anyway. When the Vista box came up, requesting permission to proceed, I told it 'No', but then I could not proceed any further. The screen just stayed at the Shockwave upload screen.

Finally, after much internal debate, I decided to go with it, and said 'Yes'. Shockwave loaded, and VMK came on with no problems. Maybe those that had problems had older PCs, but I had no problem. We'll see tonight what happens.
