As a wedding present, I gave my son and his new wife a week at BWV in a one bedroom for their honeymoon. They arrived last night and called to say how beautiful everything was and the room was wonderful. I was so pleased, because I wanted everything to be so perfect for them.

This morning they called and said when they woke up, the kitchen was full of ants! The room was on the third floor toward the end of the hall facing the fountain and entrance way. He said the ants were all under the rug and under the counters. The maintance man took a look and said it was too toxic to spray, and left them standing with the ants! They didn't want to leave because of the nice view, but I told them they had to leave! Fortunately, they moved and now have a "ant free" one bedroom for the rest of the week.

We were in a room in that area last December (may have even been the same room - 3123?) and had some ants one morning. I blamed it on my mom leaving a package of open crackers on the counter. After we took the food off the counter and wiped it down, we didn't have problems again.

Florida = bugs.

Wait 'till you see the palmetto bugs. When one crosses your path, you address it as "Sir."

Maybe they were Dvc members and just got their dates mixed. We have seen some big roaches at HH! Dvc members or not, they had to go. Anyways congrats to you and your family, Disney is a great place for a honeymoon.

Florida or not, a hotel room is no place for ants! We just purchased at OKW, but just in case, I think I will pack some ant traps when we go.

And don't forget a couple of 32-oz porterhouse steaks for those palmetto bugs.

When we checked in a few weeks ago to VWL, we found a ton of ants in the kitchen. We called and asked to be moved. Yes ants can be a huge issue in Florida. With all the rain, they look for a dry place, but I agree they should really keep a close eye on this issue. I live in Florida, so I have to keep a close eye on my home for the same reason. LOL

IN Florida, if you don't tightly seal all food at night and wipe every crumb, grain of sugar and drop of juice off the counters you might find ants the next morning. In only a matter of hours they can invade a new area in force. It would take dangerous amounts of pesticide to complete prevent this I'm sure.

The pest control guy should be taught to call the front desk in this situation so they can arrange for another room. Not leave it to the guests.

With title of your post being "Invasion" you would think that the entire resort is being overrun!

Anyway - here in Maine - when it's hot and dry - the ants come in looking for water and when it's very wet - they come in to escape the water. You can't win with ants!

You all do realize that if Mickey was an ant - we'd be thrilled with this! :teeth:

So should we look forward to mice crawling around too? ;)

P.S. What's a palmetto bug?

Palmetto bugs are known as roaches in most parts of the country. They're very large and very common in the south.

Pleeeeze no pictures of the criters!!!! So gross.

Palmetto bugs are monster roaches. They can be one inch wide and even more than 2 inches long! AND they can FLY!!!!!!!!!!! :earseek:

Kathleena, my thoughts exactly! One person having ants in their kitchen doesn't qualify as an invasion!

I for one welcome our new Insect Overlords!
