I have been using my credit cards for purchases in Europe for years. I made my first purchase with the Disney Visa a few weeks ago and they tack on a 3% fee when using for foreign transactions.
None of the other credit cards I have used have ever done this.

The Visa we use at my job has always charged a currency fee, but it is 1%. Not too unusual, but I think 3% is high.

All cards are different...you need to find out with each one before using internationally about their fees.

It is clearly listed in the Terms and Conditions for your card.

Disney Premier Visa Card:

Disney Rewards Visa Card:

DH has used Disney Visa for years and they have always had a foreign transaction fee.
Amazon also......same company. Chase.

While it's true that everyone should be familiar with the Terms and Conditions of their accounts, I have to admit I forgot about this. In my excitement to rack up points on my new Disney Visa for our December trip, I switched my 'charge to' card to it for our Jamaica trip coming up in 3 weeks. In one week the balance of several thousand dollars would have been charged to my Disney card with 3% tacked on. I called after I read this and switched it to an Amex with 0 foreign transaction charge. So thank you Carl for reminding me of this!

Yes. In an attempt to gain a 1% reward in Disney points, you'd lose a net 2% on each purchase.
By the way, all Chase cards do not have the fee. My United Mastercard does not charge the fee.

Yeah I know. We do quite a bit of business with Chase. It was just my excitement to get Disney points that led me to do that. We only do International charges once a year so I forgot. Seriously, thank you for reminding me! I was literally 8 days away from incurring that charge.
