Well, let's see. We've discussed immigration and global warming. What are your thoughts about the War on Terror?

I know that there's nothing I can do about it, but I ask that you please keep your comments informative and avoid harsh comments and name calling against each other and/or political figures. All I ask for is a mature discussion on the War on Terror. Thank you very much.

well, I think george bush is not a good prez. and I don't know much about the war but all I know is that the troops need to come home.

I don't think we need to be in Iraq, but I definently think we need the gas. That 100% is why we are over there. There are way worse things going on in this world. Genocide and Civil War in Africa come right to mind, and you know why we don't have tanks patrolling Jangaweed in Darfur or Congo Republic because we don't have any resources we can get from there. Simply it. No, I'm not for Bush either or a republican for that matter. I'm more Socialist actually and if I was 18 in '08 I would vote for Barack Obama so fast.

pretty much, i think pres bush is basically a more calm version of hitler. hes pretty much killing all our troops because of those stupid car bombs.. everyday theres multiple ones and everyday i see more and more people in the troops are dying. if he doesnt bring our troops home then we're gonna have to start sending random people.

Warning: I'm sure 89% of people won't agree with me and will hate my guts and that 6% of anyone that would ever agree with me wouldn't open the thread to begin with and the other 5% probably don't exist or got sucked up by some big giant Bush machine (that's fuel efficient for the ozone, as requested by Al Gore). So here we go...
***---***---***---***

I honestly don't have an opinion, or a strong one at that, about the war and, subsequently, George Bush.

I do, however; have a monstrous opinion on Bush. Well, I have a monstrous opinion on the country and Bush. I see A LOT of bandwagon-anti-Bushers and it sickens me. Over half the people in this country could not give me a ligitimate reason and/or an intelligent answer for not liking him. I personally don't love or hate the guy, but that's just me. I think that a lot of people have huge misconseptions about the war and what it's about and all that jazz and people really need to be well informed before they run their traps about something they're so naive about.

I also think it's funny to see people who say that they hate both Bush and Gore. I just think it's funny for the fact that you evidently can't please anyone anymore on either end, besides the obvious irony, of course.

IMHO, you should read up on the War, before making the harsh statement that Bush, is similiar to Hitler.

______________

My opinion... Ohhh, how I've discussed my opinion about this many times. Over and over on the Politics thread a while back. I believe that Bush could use better judgement when making huge descisions. Just like before the Senate Sleepover thing, he said he'd veto it if they approved the Troop Withdrawal Program. I think he knows there is no way for him to clean up this mess before his term ends, and he wants to keep true to his initial decisions. He doesn't want to seem weak.

What I don't like, is all the people saying they despise Bush just because everyone else does. It's like a new fad in this country to hate GWB. I think people need to study the war, and read about it, before forming any legitimate opinions towards it.

As far as the war goes, I'm torn. I know we need to be over their for the well-being of their country and ours... But on the other hand I know that thousands and thousands of people are dying. I keep thinking back to why this war started in the first place, and I should because it's done with and there's nothing we can do about it now. Those were the choices made back then, and now ALL of us has to deal with the consequences.

I'll probably be back later with more to say.

Okay, woah! I don't like Bush at all, but I would not go as far as to say that he is anything like Hitler. in my opinion we are fighting 2 wars right now one on terror which is in afghanastan and one just because Bush said so because one Iraq has oil,you may say but other countries have oil as well that is where the first President Bush comes in George W.'s father. our current president is just trying to finish what his father started and failed at.

Another opinion I have is that leaders everywhere in the world whether they are monarchs, presidents, emperors, dictators or w/e they all think that the way they run their country is best and Bush decided that the United States is the best example of government(which I don't think is ideal anymore) and so he wants to 'help' other countries so they can become as 'great'(or screwed up) as us. but in some countries such as Iraq a democracy doesnt work, because as soon as we took out their dictator not 30 seconds after he was executed in humanly(which by the way is illegal in the united states so it was done in a different country, yea how do you like our president now?) a civil war broke loose in Iraq, so basically he is forcing a government on them that just simply wont work.

I just don't get how you can say the way he was killed was inhumane. He's a dictator for gods sake, he killed thousands and thousands of people. I just don't think the way he was killed was wrong.

I don't support the war. I think that it was a personal vendetta of GWB that has gone way too far.

But, we can not immediately pull out.

We went to iraq and threw our hands in and messed up what was a machine (though not a machine we agree with). At this point, if every troop left tomorrow, iraq would tumble into a civil war. A civil war that would not have happened if we hadn't broken that machine. We started this, and we have to finish it.

I dislike bush. I dislike both bushs. This war was badly handled. He refuses to accept a pull out plan at all. We can pull out, just very very slowly. He refuses to accept that and continues to send more and more in. Congress is basically jumping up and down screaming at him at this point, and he refuses to accept it.

This statement bothers me. Now I'm 100% all for bush bashing, seriously. But you're wrong.

WE did NOT execute Saddam Hussein. His country tried, convicted, and hung him for the death of 100something of his countries men.

A lynching is the way they execute in Iraq. Its their country's law.

America didn't do it.

I am completely against the war....if Bush had pulled the troops out or at least started to when he said the war was over THREE YEARS AGO (illegal police action now, reminscient of Vietnam), then things might be better now.

But instead, I now have to worry about my boyfriend going to Iraq, my best friend who is going back to Iraq in a couple months, my cousins, several more of my friends...not to mention thousands of others.

Great job GW....great job...

Your friends, family, and boyfriend are all great people and I'm so incredibly thankful to have people that are still willing to serve our country even when we're in a mess like this.

Where the heck is a clapping smiley?! I need one now.

The Bush hating bandwagon is this decade's hula hoop.

I agree...they go over there knowing that they might not have another day to live, yet they still do it as a service to our country. I support our troops, not the President or the war...I hate when people automatically assume the contrary.

Canada has troops in the war as well.
Which I find a bit annoying, because it's not OUR war, but I suppose we do need to stand by our neighbours.

I do NOT support the war, but I support our troops.

I don't think there is any way to pull out easily though.
You can't just go home and call it a day or Iraq would go into turmoil.

Bush has pretty much made it impossible to pull the troops out now. The next president is going to have a lot to fix...pretty sure he is going down as the worst president in United States history, IMO.

To me i think the war is done, the US has taking out Saddam Hussein and thats about all they needed to acomplish. They have helped Iraq on re-making their country and i think its about time that we let them be their own country. I think people are just hating bush because others are like someone posted before.

IMHO the overall death totall of the US. 5,000 people have died for the US(please correct me if im wrong) to me this isnt a lot comparied to past wars. In the Civil War they had that many people dieing in one day times 4. Yes it is very said that those 5,000 some people died and i feel really bad for their families, but i think people have blown it way out of proportion.

Just my two cents

The war is far from over.
If the war was over, they could make a cleane xit.
There is NO way that could happen right now.
It IS time we let them be their own country, but right now they can't do that on their own.
They would go to civil war if the U.S troops left.
Aren't you hearing of all the suidice bombers and the car bombs...?
You know how much MORE of that would be happening without the U.S troops there!

Sure the death toll isn't alot compared to other wars, but why does it matter how many people are killed. ONE person killed is too many.
It's not been blown out of proportion, there's no way to blow a war out of proportion! IMO.
People are dying over there everyday, and there is no way to blow THAT out of proportion.

How can a war be truly just when it involves the daily killing of civilians, when it causes hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children to leave their homes to escape the bombs, when it may not find those who planned the September 11 attacks, and when it will multiply the ranks of people who are angry enough at this country to become terrorists themselves?

This war amounts to a gross violation of human rights, and it will produce the exact opposite of what is wanted: It will not end terrorism; it will proliferate terrorism.

Have you even read any of these posts? the whole reason we are still in Iraq is because Bush thought that we needed to take out their leader for them to become a better country, but in reality taking out their leader was the stupidest thing to do. we didn't fix anything, we made it worse and that is why we can't pull out because there is a civil war going on and if our troops were suddenly pulled out there would be another genocide(not like there aren't any going on in Africa but this one could have been prevented)

If Bush didn't go into Iraq and took saadam out of office then there wouldn't have been a 'democracy' set up and there wouldn't have been a trial and there wouldn't have been a hanging. Bush initiated everything, if he wanted their country to be like ours why did he let them kill him like that? because he is a sick and stupid man.(in my opinion) and you know what really annoys me about this war? all these stupid new rules that are unconstitutional, I mean you say one bad thing about the President and you are taken to jail because you could be a terrorist. what happened to freedom of speech?

I support the war in afghanastan, but I do not support the war in Iraq.
