That's too funny!! They look so gentle...I might be a bit freaked if one came face-to-face with me though, I think I remember from the zoo that they have pretty long tongues.

Yes, they do have kind of long tongues, almost black and I thought their tongues were pretty icky-looking. But the hardest part for most of us was keeping our hands to ourselves. I wanted so much to reach out and pet them. But then at the Lunch with the Animal Keeper, the head animal keeper explained how, tempting as it may be, it's a big disservice to the animal to pet them.

Ok, those Giraffe pictures are AMAZING, but, this is the very aspect of the tour I fear the MOST.

I am so terrified of being that close to a "wild" animal

They're just curious, and they're very gentle creatures. I think they would only hurt you if you put your hand too close to their mouths, like cows.
