Wanting to Rent Points, but a bit nervous

Hello all! I haven't posted here a lot but I do lurk quite a bit. I'm trying to do all the Disney races this year.

I'm considering renting points for these trips. What are my chances of being able to get these rented? Do I need to find someone who has points at those resorts or do I think I can probably get them at the 7 month window? $10 a point the going rate these days?

I'd suggest trying to secure your reservations as far in advance as possible to have the best chance for success. You can look for members offering to rent on our Rent/Trade Board or contact David's Vacation Club Rentals, a DISboards sponsor.

I'd also suggest reading the **How to use this Board** thread at the top of the Rent/Trade Board for some suggestions about the rental process.

Trying to get the reservations as far in advance as possible is especially important if you are wanting to stay at one of the smaller resorts like BCV or VWL. If you are not fussy then you can wait until the 7 month mark but as PP said it is important to try to get these reservations as soon as possible since the race dates are frequently booked well in advance.

But overall, renting is something you can feel confident about. Stories of fraud are few and far between, and you can reduce your odds of a fraudulent transaction several ways.

1) Does your DVC owner that is renting out points pass your smell test, i.e. uses reasonably correct grammar, is willing to communicate frequently, provide past renter email addresses as resources, is willing to use Paypal, etc.

2) Before you submit your payment, check the Florida Orange County Comptroller's website for their name. All DVC owners (of Florida DVC properties at least) are listed on that website as owners. Once you know they are a valid owner, it adds another level of peace of mind.

If you don't have 1) and 2), then keep looking around. Usually, if there is availability, it can take between 1 and 7 days to find an owner on the Rent/Trade board here that has the points you need at the resort you want.

And yes, I've been able to find $10/per point or less in all 3 rentals I've done. I would not go higher than $11 unless it was last minute or I had looked for at least a week that thought it wasn't going to happen.
