Wanted: Waitlist Advice

We are going to DL for the first time (14x to WDW over the last 12 years). We are checking in Easter Sunday (4/8) and checking out on Thursday (4/12).

When I first tried to book at VGC, there was no availability. I waitlisted and have been able to get all but the last night. ( got those days one by one by searching online myself). We also made a reservation at Desert Inn & Suites in case we couldn't get into VGC.

DH & I agreed that switching hotels mid-stay would be too much of a pain, so we said we would stay at Desert Inn unless the whole waitlist came through! However, now that I am so close, I'm wondering if we should just move to Desert inn for our last nite...
I only have 8 days before the waitlist is automatically canceled and I will have to cancel the reservation at that time in order to keep all of my points and not have them go to holding.

So, should I continue the waitlist past the 31 day mark and plan on walking all our suitcases to the Desert Inn for 1 night while hoping for that last day or should I just play it safe and let the waitlist cancel at 30 days and stay at Desert Inn?

I'd cut the trip a day short before I'd cancel the GCV. Can you book a room a the GCH? Or maybe the DLH?

Me too!

And I'd try and book a hotel room at GC for the last night as a backup and hope that the GCV waitlist comes thru.

the only problem with booking the last nite for cash is that it is $535!!! I can stay the whole week at the Desert Inn for around that amount. What do you think the chance are for getting that day? It is the week after Easter...

The chances are slim. I still wouldn't cancel the GCV. Move for the night to any hotel then. The GCV are amazing. Best resort in the entire area.

Sorry but I do think your chances are slim since there are so few units at VGC. I have stayed at paradise pier on points for one room its right across the street easy to transport. the DL hotel and GC are so expensive in cash or points even for one night.

We used to stay at the best western park place inn and carasol before DVC so I can recommend either of those hotels they are right across from the bus pedestran entrance so really its equal distance to them or the walk through DTD through hotel to the villas.

Good luck you will have a great trip, fresh caramel corn only at california adventures so YUMMY, no fresh at WDW Allears.com has great info on the restaurants too...enjoy
