Wanna see the tornado out my back door?

Friday night, I was watching the storms roll in and suddenly spotted a funnel forming. DH grabbed his camera and got this shot. It then started to break apart and it did not touch down in our neighborhood. It is about 1/2 mile away from our house when he took the shot.

However, it did touch down about a mile away (after it passed over us) and took out two 60+ year old trees. One of the trees fell on a car with 4 children but nobody was hurt. It was only on the ground for about 1/2 a city block and it could have been much worse.

You can't see the green color very well but it did have the green hues.

Seems to be a very active tornado season this year - especially the past few days..

We almost never have tornado warnings, but have for the last couple of days. Seeing that picture gave me a knot in my stomach. Scary! Glad everyone is fine, but those poor kids. Must've been terrifying.

It looks close but it happened fast and it's only 2 seconds from the back door to the basement, so we didn't take any chances. Believe me..... we did not take ANY chances! If you notice the tops of the trees, they are not distorted or blowing, so we were not in high winds.

The cloud colors looked greenish and I saw the finger begin. In less than 2 minutes, it formed.... DH got the pic..... and it broke up. DH is an amateur photog but he is very, very good and sometimes does pics for the local paper. He always has his camera at the ready, so he did not have to take the time to put on the lens, etc...
