Walt's WARRIORS are blooming in May.

Hey awesome warriors.

Sarah that is the best plan ever rewarding yourself for a long run, hope your 14 miler goes really well.

Tracy How's your ear? So sorry it's been that sore and not cleared at all. Fingers crossed on the hearing too. You take care of yourself and get all excited about house buying. Wahoo. I think all this running inspired me and how different my attittude is towards sports compared to when i was a child and would do anything to get out of PE! It would mean another postgraduate course... my third! We'll see what happens tho, it's all a bit random.

Jeff you look really sad in the water, can't think why you force yourself in there :rotfl:

I'm not long back from a trip to London with my boyfriend. Felt a bit guilty not getting any workouts in, but we really WALKED! Had such a good time and very sad it's over really, always good making memories though.

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

"A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it." ~Alfred Hitchcock

By now, most of you have figured out I like movies. A lot. Perhaps an unhealthy amount. Nevertheless, I think it's fun to talk about movies, especially now that the summer season has started. Wolverine has been released, so has Star Trek, with many more big blockbusters soon to come.

So this week's mixer topic is, predictably enough, summer movies! The start of the mixer, posted on the 'Ohana thread, is here.

What summer movies are you looking most forward to, and why? Also, how do you like your summer movies?

Feel free to talk about how you choose your flicks: based on directors, your favorite movie star, a beloved genre? And what is your ideal movie experience? Midnight movies or matinees? Chain theaters or independents? Drive-ins? What about the movie-going extras? With or without snacks? Buttered popcorn or chocolate?

Went to the North Shore on Saturday with the intent on fishing, then coming home. Well it was so nice up there, I decided to stay and camp with my usual group of friends. That meant I missed my morning clinic run.

Well, after getting home and unpacking, I headed out for my run in the afternoon instead. 13.25 miles in 2:07:36. Lots of waterstops to make it through the miles.

Have a great week everyone, and enjoy some pictures.

Hey Warriors!

Haven't posted in awhile. The end of the school year is wrapping up, and Emma's schedule is making me crazy!

Last week we went on a field trip to the zoo in Jacksonville- it's a really cool zoo. There's a lot of interaction with the animals- buy food and feed sting rays, giraffes, parrots, etc.

Here's Emma (pink shirt) with a friend and a really big guy:
Puppyzootrip2009111-1.jpg

Then, we decided to live on the edge and get a puppy!! You know how I'm always chasing a freaked out Emma on her bike if she sees a dog?! We decided maybe some puppy exposure would help her. So we got a yellow lab (and if she doesn't calm down by puppy exposure, at least I know when mine gets bigger it can scare the others away!) I have dreams of running with him, but right now we're working on not eating the leash. :rolleyes1

Here's all 3 of them with Luke, the new guy.

And here's baby Milo pulling ears while the puppy eats his toes. Yep, they're very similar...

And finally, one shot where he stopped moving!

As for running, I did 8 miles Friday, 6 Saturday, and 2.75 squeezed in between storms on Sunday.

Jen in GA

Jen: Congrats on the new family member! He's so CUTE! Your plan to get Emma over her fear of dogs is a good one, but I do have one piece of advice, based on our own experience with our German Shepherd and our 8 year old cousin, Lindsay, who used to be terrified of big dogs. When you're out with your dog, particularly an excitable, boisterous dog like a Lab, you will be a magnet to all other dogs in the area, many of whom will run up to you, some of them barking and growling. This can be extremely terrifying, even for someone who is used to dogs. So you'll have to be very careful about taking Emma and the dog out together, before she's gotten over her fear, to make sure that Emma's fear of dogs (that are not her own) doesn't get worse. Our cousin loves our German Shepherd (Jack) and will play with him and even wrestle with him (he outweighs her by 20 lbs, but always lets her win), but now runs away whenever she sees any other big dog, because they "want to hurt Jack" so they must be scary.

Anyway, just some un-asked-for advice. But since we've been through the same thing over the last year, thought I'd throw it out there. :goodvibes Enjoy your cutie-pie new puppy!

Sarah Rose- thanks for the tip! I kind of worried about the "dog magnet" factor. Right now Emma is a HUGE dog magnet. She sees a dog and starts screaming, pedalling like crazy on her bike. I then have to take off at full speed while trying to keep the pursuing dog from thinking we are playing the best game ever. The last dog to do this to us?? A chihuahua. Granted, it's a mean little guy and chases me all the time, but you can outrun it in like 20 feet. ;)

Worn the skirt yet? Your logic totally worked for me.

Just did 5 miles at lunch. It's sort of wet and actually cold outside (55 is cold for me).

Jen

Jen your new little one is gorgeous! That is a fantastic plan and i think Sarah's advice seems perfect. It's amazing what a knowledgable bunch you warriors are.

Jeff what a great run after all this activity. It just looks so lovely

I went to the gym and did leg weights work, which haven't done for very long time (naughty i know!) and 4miles cross trainer. With some core work when got home made up to 1 hour of activity. :yay:

Jen: I don't doubt that small dogs can be worse than big dogs! I don't want to generalize or offend anyone with a small dog, but I've found that you need more caution around small dogs than big ones! Heck, just yesterday I almost got my ankle torn off while jogging by a dog (on an extendable leash) that weighed less than 10 lbs! It's easy to understand why this difference exists: my 80 lb German Shepherd growls at or chases a child, and I'm going to be dealing with animal control before I can so much as blink. A Chihuahua growls at a child, and a lot of people think it's funny that the little dog is acting tough. Big dog owners simply need to take more responsibility for their dog's behavior, because the dog can cause a lot more damage if something goes wrong. One of the first things we did after adopting our adult Shepherd was "child-proof" him; he can now have his legs, tail, and ears pulled, and will just wag his tail and grin. You simply can't leave any room for chance with a large dog, but that is not the same with a small dog.

Ok, that was an off-topic rant. I guess I just have some left-over bitterness from dealing with Little Fluffy yesterday. Anyway, I think positive interactions with dogs are always good for kids; having a friendly dog to play with and train helps kids to develop their "big kid" voice, which can often stop a strange dog (that is just being a nuisance and wants to play chase with the child) in their tracks.

Kate: Yay for getting the leg weight work in! I'll admit that I'm really bad at getting it done, as well. :)

I did get 13.43 miles in yesterday in 2:35; didn't quite make 14 miles, but I was so close as I got to my overpass to get up to my street, that I decided to cut it a bit short. And I LOVE my new running skirt; I was worried that the built-in compression shorts would ride up, but it wasn't a problem at all. My iPod Touch also fit into the pocket quite well and didn't pull down the skirt at all. I don't normally run with music, because I have the dog, but it was too hot to run 14 miles with him yesterday, so I left him at home. I'm a bit stiff today (but not nearly as stiff as I was the only other time I've run that far, during the WDW half marathon in January) but had no major issues, so I'm happy. Looks like the Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Half Marathon next month will be a breeze, and I'll be able to slide into training for my first full marathon with no problems.

No running for me today, but I do need to get to work on my arms at the gym tonight - the wedding is in less than two months, now, so I need to not be the bride with back fat!

Sarah

Hey my Warriors!!

It's your fearless leader here. Been a bit preoccupied but I am here. I did a nice 8 miles on Sunday. Not a great thing happened as I was leavin the house that involved a cute little squirel and a car that I just happened to be looking directly at when it happened. I won't go into details but you probably get the picture. Also I guess its summer as I got attacked by a bug of some sort. Around mile 3 a bug landed on my right ear and was buzzing, you can only imagine how tha feels, so of course I reached up and swatted it away. When I looked down at the Garmi it was on my arm then I swatted it and then proceeded to circle me and land in my head. UGH!!! I took off my visor and was swatting and running to get "away" from whatever this thing was. I could just see what a picture this was to the cars passing by. I probably looked like a lunatic! Well, I got it done and that's all that matters right? Rained a good amount here yesterday starting around 3pm until I went to sleep. Hopefully won't be raining too bad after work when I need to get out for a 4 miler.

Kate, Glad to hear you got back to your weights and leg work. Sometimes we just let things go huh when we don't "really" want to do them. But good for you!! My ear is doing a bit better. I just finished my course of steriods so we'll see. I have the hearing test next week.

Jeff, YOU CRAZY!! Can't believe you went out in the middle of the day to do that many miles. You're brave and/or nuts!!

Jen, CUTE doggy!!! I love my dog! Dogs are great companions and teach us so much about life!!!

Sarah, YEAH!! You did your miles and got to wear your skirt, YES!! Keep up the good work.

You guys are awesome, so keep at it and keep inspiring each other!!:cool1:

Hey hey, just a fly by after running club- 6.3miles 56mins with 10 stretch. Managed to hook up with a guy who i made the BIG mistake of telling that I'm a mental health worker... wasn't planning on another session today, but it was nice that he felt comfy to talk to me i guess! :goodvibes

Where is everyone?

Hey WISHer's. Everyone getting in their mile and reps?

I did the usual 8 1/4, 1:14:55. Followed that with a 10.05 bike ride in 50:49. Skipped the swim. :lmao:

Have a great Wednesday everyone.

Hello Warriors! Sorry I've been MIA...just been one of those weeks.

Jen - Your puppy is soooo cute!

I'm still puttin in the miles...did 3.5 last night with the running group. They were tough! We did hill repeats on what was the steepest hill ever! I had to walk a lot, but I completed the workout!

Which leads me to my new motto..."I don't compete, I just complete!":lmao:

The other one I saw online yesterday that I thought was funny was "I am slow because the faster I finish, the longer I have to wait for everyone else."

Have a great Wednesday, Warriors!

Happy Really Frickin' WET Wednesday Warriors!!!

The weather here has been absolutely miserable for the last 3 days. At work yesterday (my station is right across A1A from the beach) we had steady 30 mph winds (gusts to 48) with steady horizontal rain most of the day.

The last 3 days have been a complete washout outside except for today, I managed to sneak in 4 miles in 39:45 between rain bands (BTW, that's (ahem) a sub 9 minute pace (pat on the back right here).

Been trying to stick with a good schedule w/ the P90X, but the real world keeps stickin' it's nose in where it's not wanted. Total of about 5 hours worth since Saturday.

Hopefully I will be able to get a sprint duathlon workout in tomorrow. 5k run/20k bike/5k run. I need to get into the ocean & SWIM, but right now, with the nor'easter storm that would be suicide.

You guys all rock!! Keep it up!

Hi Warriors ~

Just checking in..I've been @ the gym as usual weight class, spin class and running on the treadmill before work. I usually get in an hour or a little more with the stretching.

Jeff ~ YOU CRAZY! LOL Sign me up...I'm in!:rotfl2:

Tracy ~ I hope your ear feels better...if it doesn't already.:lovestruc

Sarah ~ cute addition to the family! I hope your daughter gets over her fear of dogs.:wizard:

Jim B. ~ You still amaze me with your workouts! p90x, run, bike, swim..etc:worship:

Michelle ~ Way to go with your workouts! Speed work, hills & getting your miles in!

:goodvibes Hey hey.

Jim one giant thwack on the back for you! Great work getting under 9 min mile pace and especially fitting it around that weather. Blimey!

Michelle what an awesome motto! Your hill work sounds very tough so big well done to you too.

Marcia that's a heck of a workout before work. I'm very impressed that you can get out of bed early to the hit the gym.

Went to the gym after uni, 2.5miles on TM, same cross training and then weights for 66 mins total workout. We've had a very fun evening discussing my sister's wedding and hen party and her future plans for kids. I just got excessively excited about the trips to the zoo and aquarium we can have.... ok i'm way ahead of myself here!

Happy nearly weekend

Happy Thursday Warriors!!!!!

We have been in the clear for a few hours, but more rain is due tonight & tomorrow.

I managed to get my run/bike/run workout in today. Total of about 18.8 miles.

My DW is up from school for the weekend, so the second 5k was kinda' liesurely, but still a time with the "kid" (she's 20 & in training for EE in the fall).

Tomorrow - work. Maybe a P90X if I can fit it in.

Keep rockin' Warriors!!

Hey there Warriors!

Jim: Well done, getting your workouts in instead of building an ark! Has the weather cleared up, yet?

Kate: There's nothing like putting the pressure on for nieces and nephews early. :rotfl:

I have missed my run the last two days, but I had very good reason: it's HENSON WEEKEND!!!!!!! For the last year, the museum I work at has been getting ready for the Smithsonian exhibition Jim Henson's Fantastic World to arrive, and it opens Saturday and today was finally the staff preview event. I have been working 14 hour days this week, but today I finally got to meet Kermit and Rowlf and the Fraggles and Ernie and Bert and (my favorite) Mahna Mahna and the Snowths. The museum also hired a local puppeteer to build muppets based on Northwest rock icons, so we also have a interactive rock band made up of muppet Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Carrie Akre, and a hilarious Keith Moon/Animal hybrid that guests can operate and rock out with. It's pretty much the coolest thing ever. Anyway, this is not related at all (except the Muppets are owned by Disney, I guess) but I just got home and I'm so pumped about how awesome it all is.

Hope everyone has a fantastic long weekend!

8 1/4 miles in 1:14, followed by a 500 meter swim in 30 minutes. I rather enjoyed taking my time in the ocean, vs. swimming fast to get it done.

Happy Aloha Friday everyone!

Hey Warriors!

Sounds like everyone is doing well.

Kate-if you don't get a neice or nephew soon, you can always borrow one of my kids. Although I have to warn you, Mr. Harry, the three year old, said "whatever" and mooned me in his Buzz Lightyear underwear yesterday...;)

Sarah Rose- that sounds so cool. I had Kermit sheets when I was young (ok, I was about 12, but I loved them!)

Jim- I'm about ready for the sun to come out!

Jeff- ocean swim?! I was just telling my husband that Hawaii should pay you to be their spokesperson. I've never been, but now I don't just want to visit, I want to move and be your neighbor!!

Tracy- I've been very diligent with my sunscreen. I don't want to have to admit getting too crispy!

I'm going out for a run in just a minute. Our office shut down for lunch- hello, enchilada. Could be trouble. We closed for a sort of wedding shower for an employee- we got her towels and stuff but she really wanted a donkey. Remind me to tell you the story of the donkey sometime...

Jen
