Does anyone know where Walt is buried and if it is opened to the public to view?

My daughter asked me this question the other day and I have no idea where Walt is buried?

Sorry to post this thread here, but I wasn't sure what forum I should post this question.

He was cremated and his ashes are located here in California at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

That's really interesting, thanks for sharing.

We were in DL in June and my bro and his gf piloted the Mark Twain. The lady CM up there was telling them all sorts of random info. One of the pieces was that somewhere along the river on the rocks there is "What lies beneath" or something like that written in Greek. According to the lady, that was one of the two spots she thought Walt might be buried since no one knew :confused3 . Well, apparently it's known, huh? But my bro also told us she said they were building a suite in the castle, and I had read on here they weren't... soooo... who knows.

She had her information half right. They are building a suite in the castle-but in WDW. The suite they are building/creating here in DLR is inside the Disneyland Hotel.

Definitely follow the instructions linked above. Here's a photo of the garden area where Walt's ashes are interred:

And a close-up of the name plaque:

Definitely take time to go into the mausoleum as well. Graves from Hollywood's golden era are all over the place. The most poignant for me was George Burns and Grace Allen:

It's a beautiful cemetary, with much to see. As long as you don't call attention to yourself, you won't have any problems.

Carolina Yankee is correct. Walt Disney's grave is located at the Freedom Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Glendale. In the same vincinity is the burial grounds of Spencer Tracy, Alan & Sue Ladd, Larry Fine (one of the Three Stooges) and Nat King Cole.

It is an urban myth that Walt was cryonically frozen. He was cremated. His brother Roy O. Disney is buried in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills overlooking the Disney Studios.

There was a cartoon spoof on this on Saturday Night Live last Sat. on the July 8th. It was actually funny.

I can't believe the stories people make up.

Speaking of Forest Lawn, did I tell you about the time we got locked in W.C. Fields' mausoleum? Actually, my husband's mother's family is there and we went to go pay our respects. It was almost closing time and we were a little lost, so didn't have much time to spare. The woman at the gate said, "We close at 4:00". My husband decides to take me on a tour, showing me Larry Fine, W.C. Fields, etc. We go to leave and the doors are locked! A voice comes out of nowhere: "I told you --- we close at 4:00". We had to stay put for about 15 minutes in a VERY quiet mausoleum until the custodian came to unlock the doors. My husband (boyfriend at the time) was laughing, but I was seriously creeped out. We did see Walt's gravesite on a later visit -- very secluded.

While we are talking death and cremation, I told my family I want to be cremated, and my ashes left at Disneyland. I'm sure it's not allowed, but I keep telling them that. Dh and the inlaws keep teasing me about it. Dh pretends to be security - "Hey! You're going to clean that up! Here's a broom!"
And MIL says she's going to go on the Dumbo ride, and open my urn when she is at the highest. LOL

Okay, totally morbid, I know. How can a Disneyfreak like me have such a sick sense of humor?

Jim MacDonald, the voice of Mickey Mouse (after Walt Disney), is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park - Glendale too. Why not just be interred at Forest Lawn? A lot of Walt Disney people are buried here.

Forest Lawn is a really nice cemetery. And you will probably be interred near some famous movie star too! They have some private and gated areas if you want privacy.

Thank you so much Carolina Yankee for putting in the pic., especially the Burns and Allen one. They are my favorite so it was a nice surprise!

I didn't know this. My grandparents are buried there. They are close to Liberace.

I can't believe I haven't gone to see Walt's grave! Maybe the next time I go up to Disneyland, I'll take a little side trip there.
Walt Disney and Marilyn Monroe are my two favorite icons! I've seen Marilyn's grave...so I better go see Walt!
Thanks so much for all the info. :thumbsup2

When we went to see Walt's grave, we were really surprised by how hard it was to find! The plaque was hidden on the wall behind some trees. If you don't know exactly what to look for, you'd never guess who was buried there.

My daughter said she wanted to go back and decorate it! ;)

On the whole, I bet you'd rather have been in Philadelphia! :lmao: :lmao:

OK, who is Robert B. Brown, and why is he interred with the Disneys? :confused3
