Probably the same reason that they never looked into the VA hospital here that was falsifying patients records and killing them with unnecessary or incorrect cancer treatments - until someone leaked it to the press and lawsuits were filed..

They have been looking the other way for years - and will continue to do so unless the pressure is kept on via the media.. The one thing they don't like is bad press..

But they told the soldiers not to talk to the media about this. Ironic, huh, that they were over there fighting for our liberties, which includes right to speech, and now they are being censored.

Walter Reed should be closed. The reasons for its closure are just as valid now as they were two years ago. The plan is to build a modern facility to handle the technology advancements that Walter Reed cannot. HOWEVER, to say "we're closing in five years so we're not going to do basic maintenance," is just outrageous. Worse than outrageous are the politicians who are grandstanding on the issue. Fix what is wrong and build something better.

I'm not. Because I don't believe it's at all genuine. Instead it's political on both sides and it's being used as a talking point. Just my take.

Military Members have always been censored.. The constitution they defend does not apply to them while in..The UCMJ does.

UCMJ= Uniform Code of Military Justice... A person in the military can be jailed and or disciplined for things that are perfectly legal for civilian.. They are subject to different penalties than civilians... They fall under an entirely different body of law from civilians.

Someone like my husband couldn't just go on the tv and lambaste the president or congress or say what he really thinks about issues without fear of retribution through UCMJ

If he is in the Military this is correct. It has always been this way. There are non-political reasons for the rules to exist. One of the biggest reasons is that the Military itself is suppose to be non-political, answerable to whatever civilian administration is in office, etc.

Absolutely. Congressmen and women often intervene on behalf of servicemen caught up in the bureaucracy.

I know our congressman in ky has been pushing for funding for our VA hospital prior to this. I'm sure many others have had it on their agendas as well, and are using this to increase the visibilty of the need. I dont think they have been ignoring it, just havent been getting the funding they need.
