Walter Cronkite dies at 92.

News is reporting that Walter Cronkite died today at 92 in New York.
Clearly a legend in television broadcasting. Thoughts with his family, the journalism world, and audiences.

I just saw this as well. Even though he hasn't been a broadcaster in years, it still feels like the end of an era.

I still miss his Spaceship Earth narration. Luckily, through the power of the interwebs, I am able to watch it whenever I feel like it.

I have to admit I didn't even know he was still alive. It is a bit strange because just today when I was speaking to someone at work about how terrorist bombings in Indonesia get less press coverage than a pop star's death I said "Walter Cronkite must roll in his grave every day". Uh, oops .

I watched him during every space shot. The best part was he reported the news and never tried to make it.

These are the first words I thought of when I heard he died.

We used to call him "Uncle Walt". He was replaced by young "Cousin Dan" Rather.

I heard the news last night and thought to myself
an Icon has died.
He was a wonderful news anchor!

I remember watching the moon landing in my Dad's family room. I was thinking about that this week. Thank you Uncle Walter. I did have a selfish thought last night. I hope they don't remove him from the Holiday Tag on Illuminations. The fact it was Uncle Walter made it so special.

I still miss his Spaceship Earth narration. Luckily, through the power of the interwebs, I am able to watch it whenever I feel like it.

For me, Cronkite's voice and "Tomorrow's Child" gave Spaceship Earth the majesty and the wonder of the attraction, and really set the tone for the rest of Future World's east side (as I always toured in a counterclockwise route). When the music was changed and Irons replaced Cronkite, it lost something for me.
