Walter Elias Disney II died April 30, 2004. He was lovingly known as "Walt" at our house. He was the best darn hamster that has ever lived. DS9 is devastated. He has had Walt since Christmas. No known cause of death. Never had a pet die yet. It is a sad day at our house. Please keep Walt and Kyle in your thoughts. Thanks.

So sad to hear about your pet hamster. :( When DS was 8 last year he experienced his first pet loss with his bird Ho-Oh. What helped him heal was that we made a scrapbook page together for his book.

Awwww.

Haven't had a hamster since Shroomie died while I was in college. It was a sad day... and my grandparents had to bury him for me.

Rest in Peace, Walt.

Hi Sue,

Give the kids a hug for us. Michelle had a hamster several years ago...saved her own money to buy all the stuff, etc. Had it about 6 months and a similar situation. We even checked with the vet when it started acting "odd". Apparently hamsters are prone to a wide variety of ailments. Most of which tend to be fatal.

Michelle was heartbroken and didn't want to get another hamstra right away. And so far doesn't want to nor does she want to get rid of the cage, etc.

At least you have the set of pages you did at our crop for him to remember Walt.

:( Deb

I just recently lost my dog, and my sister sent me this. I don't know if you are a person of faith, but this really helped me, and maybe it will make your son feel better too.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks for the lovely reading. We are having the funeral tonight and I will read it. Kyle is just now feeling better. Wants a new one but Walt was so good. Never bit anyone and Ariel loved to play with him. Thanks for all yor kind words.
